J Carrier has had a nomadic lifestyle, moving from Washington D.C. to Ecuador, and then to Africa and the Middle East, every move taking him further from his friends and family. During his time in Israel, Carrier began to feel an affinity with the migrants who had landed in the dusty city of Tel Aviv, relating to their experience as an outsider, someone far from home. Elementary Calculus, through a series of portraits, landscapes and still life photographs, observes the publicly private moments of these peregrine foreigners as they attempt to connect back to their homes. In his documentation of migrants and refugees in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Carrier explores the distance between reality and desire - the want for what was and the hope for what will be - and traces the manner in which we navigate the points between the unknowns. His photographs resonate with the sense that in a foreign country geographical distance loses its physical measure and home feels like a hazy memory, a half-remembered dream. Carrier's subtle yet striking images of Israel and the West Bank throw up more questions than they answer. What does this influx of foreigners mean in a nation that is defined by ethnicity and competing claims of ownership? And how does this complex situation affect these new varieties of refugees? Is there promise in this land for them? After graduating with a degree in biological sciences, J. Carrier became a drummer in a punk-rock band. He spent most of the past decade living and working in Africa and Israel and now lives in Brooklyn, NY with his wife. He won the fine art award in the New York Photo Awards in 2010, was the Grand Prize Winner at the National Geographic Traveller / PDN "World in Focus" awards in 2010, and was nominated for the Santa Fe Prize for Photography in 2011.

This new edition of Kodachrome is published as a facsimile of the original, adopting the original design, text layout and image sequence, but using new image files scanned from Ghirri's original film to take advantage of modern technology and printing methods. A small booklet is included with an essay by Francesco Zanot, which offers a contemporary perspective on the historical impact of Kodachrome, alongside French and German translations of the original texts from the book (which were published in English and Italian). 'The daily encounter with reality, the fictions, the surrogates, the ambiguous, poetic or alienating aspects, all seem to preclude any way out of the labyrinth, the walls of which are ever more illusory... to the point at which we might merge with them... The meaning that I am trying to render through my work is a verification of how it is still possible to desire and face a path of knowledge, to be able finally to distinguish the precise identity of man, things, life, from the image of man, things, and life.' Luigi Ghirri Born in Scandiano in 1942, Luigi Ghirri spent his working life in the Emilia Romagna region, where he produced one of the most open and layered bodies of work in the history of photography. He was published and exhibited extensively both in Italy and internationally and was at the height of his career at the time of his death in 1992.

Rodeo Drive, 1984 is a series of 41 images of shoppers on Beverly Hills' infamous shopping highway. The subjects appear caught unaware, glancing up as they walk, or daydreaming as they wait to be served in its commercial landscape of shops and restaurants. Anthony Hernandez poses as a dispassionate observer, recording the big hair, wide shoulders and cinched waists of the 1980's in sunlit photographs.

Martin Boyce is known for his large installation work in sculpture, creating angular replications of the world around him, finding meaning in everyday surroundings and working steel structures into amplifications of these moments in space and time. "It's all about landscape, I'm interested in the psychological landscape, the physical landscape, the built environment, the things we pass through everyday and then occasionally catch a glimpse of and maybe see something that has a meaningful resonance." A Partial Eclipse brings together photographs from an on-going private library of images which feeds into Boyce's work. The images adopt a sombre and darkened palette, as if the light has been stolen from each photograph creating the illusion of a mythical perma-dusk allowing us to see the world as Boyce sees it. Images of trees and foliage permeate the collection, ellipses and perforations reoccur, patterns of cracks, fractures and spider webs repeat and thresholds appear in the form of windows and doorways. Hundreds of photographs were edited down until the shape of a book emerged. The series creates the feeling of stillness and distance between the viewer and photograph. Printed on double sided paper, the photographs reflect blurrily in the coated page opposite it's matte brother. The book as an object extends the experience of distance through its design, keeping the darkened images enclosed and projected between the folds of paper. Hamilton-born Boyce studied at both Glasgow School of Art and California Institute for the Arts, Los Angeles. His work has been exhibited widely across the world including solo exhibitions at Museum für Moderne Kunst (Frankfurt, 2002); Tate Britain (London, 2006); the Centre Contemporain (Geneva, 2007) and The Modern Institute (London 2011).

Great BookBrand new only opened to be signed and to take few pics for this adCollier Schorr's latest book 8 Women presents work which spans from the mid-nineties to the present. Schorr's earliest works utilised appropriated adverts from fashion magazines to address issues of authorship and desire; the works introduced a female gaze into the debate about female representation. Appropriation was Schorr's first medium and in some sense she returns to it, taking her own commissioned fashion images and folding them into a dialogue with other works.The works in 8 Women propose a variety of subjects, all of whom are involved in performance, be it as artists, models or musicians. Schorr, who has been working in fashion for the last 10 years, created sets that doubled as her studio, teasing out images that could only be made with a subject that could travel between the object of desire and the enforcer of an identity crafted in that very moment. The gas station is one of the most iconic of twentieth century buildings. Recognised across the world, it is arguably most established on American soil where the notion of the road trip on a full tank of gas is culturally ingrained. Gasoline presents 35 archive press images of gas stations taken between 1944 and 1995. They have been collected by writer David Campany, purchased from the photography archives of several American newspapers which have been discarding their analogue print collections and moving to the now ubiquitous .jpeg or .tif formats. Gasoline can be read as a cautionary tale about the modern dependence on oil, about news photography, about the shift from film to digital imaging, or as a minor history of car design and vernacular architecture. Marked with the grease pen notations of the newspapers' art directors, the photos tell of oil shortages, road congestion, crimes, accidents and choking cities. Individually the images are single moments in time; collectively they show a growing consciousness about cars, the oil trade and global concern about pollution. David Campany is a London based writer, curator, and artist. He writes about documentary, photojournalism, art, cinema, fashion, archives, and architecture. He has published essays on many artists and photographers including, Paul Graham, Chris Killip, Edgar Martins and John Stezaker. His books include Walker Evans: the magazine work (2013), Art and Photography (2003), Photography and Cinema (2008), and The Open Road: photographic road trips in America (forthcoming in 2014). Campany writes regularly for Aperture, Frieze, TATE, Source, and Photoworks. In 2010 he co-curated Anonymes: Unnamed America in Photography and Film at Le Bal (Paris). In 2012 he won the International Center of Photography Infinity Award for Writing.
