In response to these difficulties, Forgiveness and Jesus addresses the misunderstandings of traditional Christianity, separating these out from the teachings of the Course, and emphasizes the importance of correcting these errors in the context of the two-thousand-year-old tradition. Forgiveness and Jesus first discusses in depth the principles of A Course in Miracles, specifically focusing on the dynamics of the ego and the meaning of forgiveness. The book next presents the teachings of Christianity in the light of the principles of the Course, highlighting the similarities and differences. Throughout the book, special attention is given to the application of the Course's principles to important areas in our lives such as injustice, anger, sickness, sexuality, and money. The person of Jesus is also discussed in depth. The Appendix includes an index of names, a subject index, an index of examples, and a scriptural index.

The Obstacles to Peace

The theme of this workshop is our need to forgive Jesus because he is right and we are wrong about who we truly are. This theme is discussed in the context of Helen Schucman's poem, "Stranger on the Road, " which expresses her experiences of Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection, and reflects her conflict of despair and hope, death and life, fear and love, a conflict which practically all students of the Course share in developing a relationship with Jesus.

Using Freud's theory of dreams as the framework, this half-day workshop focuses on Jesus being the light of truth in the world's illusory dream. His love is the call to usthen and nowfrom outside the dream to take his hand as we walk through the ego's dreamsmind and bodyof victim and victimizer. Emphasis is placed not only on the fear of leaving behind our specialness, but also on the desire to be the perfect thought of love that Jesus exemplifies. This desire makes it possible for us ultimately to take his hand and leave the dream entirely.

Formerly entitled "Walking with Jesus," this workshop combines poems of Helen Schucman with readings from "A Course in Miracles" in discussing our love-hate relationship with Jesus. Our hate is born of the fear of growing up to become like him, thereby turning away from our specialness. This need to keep Jesus in our own image and likeness is reflected in "the dream of mockery" the world has made of him. Accepting our ultimate oneness with him is foreshadowed by the recognition of our inherent oneness with all the Sonship. In that vision is our ascent up the ladder assured, as we grow to awaken to the truth of our Identity as God's one Son.

This 2002 workshop discusses Helen Schucman's poem, "Bright Stranger," which describes herand our attempt to keep Jesus' love away, and the futility of such attempts. Because our real fear is not of crucifixion but redemption, we try to bring Jesus into the world in order to deny that he is in our mind, love's source. It is explained how the ego's fear, along with its defenses of hate and judgment, ultimately has no power over love. Although we cover it with "locks and keys"representing our need to protect ourselvesthese defenses lack the power to succeed. Jesusour "bright stranger"is the light that shines in the dream, dissolving its fear into its own nothingness as our defenses fall away before his gentle coming.

While a seemingly abstract and intellectual exercise, distinguishing between symbol and reality is shown in this workshop to be crucial to one's spiritual growth as a student of A Course in Miracles. Missing this aspect of what is taught in the Course ensures that one remain a spiritual child. This means that one could never develop a relationship with Jesus that would lead to joining with him in the love and peace that is outside the world's dream, and that alone is our true reality.

One year after "A Course in Miracles" was published in 1976, in response to requests for an introduction that could be handed out to interested people as a way of presenting the Course and explaining its origin, its scribe Helen Schucman agreed to write one. It was in three parts and was called the Preface. As the third of this three-part Preface, "What It Says" was scribed by Helen by the same process of inner dictation from Jesus as was the Course itself. It introduces, as would a musical overture, the major themes to be discussed, thus providing a succinct overview of the spiritual journey presented in A Course in Miracles. It is a remarkable piece, elevating the reader to the same level of form and content found in the Course itself. This book offers a line-by-line journey through this beautifully written document, in many ways a minor masterpiece.
