Product Description Primal Sight, a collection of works by 146 artists, and essays by David Campany and Gregory Eddi Jones, surveys the state of contemporary black-and-white photography. The project, curated by Efrem Zelony-Mindell, includes the works of intergenerational, interdisciplinary, and intersectional artists, each questioning the perceived order of things. These interrogations center on issues of race, gender, philosophy, and praxis, subverting traditional notions of black-and-white imagery into something feral and queered, possessed of previously unimagined possibilities. These works embody a mastery of what is strengthened or weakened by the light inside them. Beyond our individual differences, there exist universal commonalities in the ways humans try to make sense of the world; as our fluency with visual vocabulary changes, these images change accordingly. Primal Sight has been featured as a collected portfolio of 25 works in DEAR DAVE, Magazine as well as a 26 artist online group show at In the In-Between. About the Author Efrem Zelony-Mindell (they/them) is a curator, writer, and artist. Their curatorial endeavors include the exhibitions: n e w f l e s h, Are You Loathsome, Familiar Strange, This Is Not Here, and more. They write about art for FOAM, Unseen, DEAR DAVE, Musée Magazine, SPOT, and essays for artists’ monographs. Their first book newflesh, published by Gnomic Book, is now available and has been collected by many international libraries and archives. They received their BFA from the School of Visual Arts.

a Handful of Dust est l'histoire spéculative de David Campany du siècle dernier et un voyage visuel à travers certaines de ses images les plus inimaginables. Supposons que l'ère moderne commence en octobre 1922. Une petite revue d'avant-garde française publie une photographie d'une feuille de verre recouverte de poussière. Le photographe est Man Ray, le verre est de Marcel Duchamp. Au début, ils l'appelaient une vue depuis un avion. Ensuite, ils l'ont appelé l'élevage de la poussière. C'est abstrait, c'est réaliste. C'est une oeuvre d'art, c'est un document. C'est révoltant et convaincant. Les appareils photo doivent être tenus à l'écart de la poussière, mais ils la trouvent hautement photogénique. Parallèlement, une petite revue anglaise publie le poème de TS Eliot, The Waste Land. "Je vais vous montrer la peur dans une poignée de poussière." Et si la poussière est vraiment la clé des années intermédiaires? Pourquoi ne l'aimons-nous pas? Est-ce cosmique? Nous sommes de la poussière d'étoile, après tout. Est-ce domestique? Inévitable et indisciplinée, la poussière est l'ennemi de l'ordre moderne, son refoulé, son ennemi juré. Mais il a une histoire à raconter de l'autre côté.
