Originally trained as a sculptor, Thomas Demand approaches photography as a means of preserving ephemeral paper constructions but inevitably the camera becomes central to his creative process. At first glance, Demand's works seem to present fragments of a hyperreal and familiar place but, before long, they reveal their true identity: a wholly artificial world reduced to generic forms. Large immaculate photographs of interiors and architectural exteriorsa world peopled with inanimate objects and bathed in uniform lightingare mounted on Plexiglas, which underscores the materiality of the photographic object. For each of his reproductions, Demand constructs life-size models using paper and cardboard, and these forms always allow signs of their true nature to show through. 50 color illustrations.

Maurizio Cattelan is the best-known Italian artist to have emerged internationally in the 1990s, and his reputation continues to grow. The book titled "Kai Kein Respect" accompanies the first major survey exhibition of Kai Althoff, one of the most compelling and original voices in Contemporary Art. Organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, the exhibition documents the most important aspects of the artist's work over the past fifteen years. Co-published by Bridge House Publishing and the ICA, Boston, the book offers full-color illustrations of Althoff's drawings, watercolors, collages, paintings, photographs, performances and installations presinting a comprehensive overview of his complex and varied oeuvre. 
Nicholas Baume, Chief Curator, ICA Boston, states "Kai Althoff's work deals explicitly with powerful feelings. The works often evoke or invent narratives, where characters inhabit imaginary worlds that provide allegories of real human experience and emotion." Althoff draws on a multitude of sources in his art, from Germanic folk traditions to recent popular culture and from medieval and gothic religious imagery to early modern expressionism. 
Kai Althoff, who also founded the band "Workshop", was born in 1966 in Cologne, Germany, where he currently lives and works. He has had solo exhibitions at galleries in Berlin, Cologne, London, New York, Vienna and Hamburg. Althoff has also been featured in numerous international group exhibitions including the 1993 and 2003 Venice Biennales, "Chere Paintre, Leibe Maler, Dear Painter" at the Centre Pompidou in Paris (2002), and "Drawing Now-8 Propositions" at the Museum of Modern Art, New York (2002)

With full-color plates of paintings and sculptures, this title was produced for the inaugural exhibition at Gagosian Gallery, Hong Kong, Damien Hirst: Forgotten Promises. It includes "For Heaven's Sake" (2008), a life-size human baby skull cast in platinum and covered in 8,128 pink and white diamonds, as well as beautiful diamond cabinets in gold and silver. A group of paintings from 2008 to 2009, including "Age of Magnificence" and "Fading Magnificence," show real butterflies entombed in layers of shiny metallic paint. The new Love Paintings are painted in oil with painstaking attention to realistic detail. "Why else would you do it, when you could just get a photograph that looks identical?" Hirst has said. "But it's not the same thing, is it? A photograph is from a moment, a split second. Painting is about stopping to look at the world, considering it, and giving it more and more importance."
