The young New York artist Phoebe Washburn creates environmental-scale sculptures made of common or discarded materials. Combining countless numbers of cardboard boxes or thousands of pieces of scrap wood to form undulating installations, Washburn's works tell the story of their own making, incorporating by-products of their creation into the final project. This volume documents Washburn's commission for the Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin, where she constructed a Rube Goldbergian factory to produce grass for the project's sod roof over the course of the exhibition. This catalogue documents the development of the sculpture in the artist's studio, along with original source material and sketches, and features a career overview by Jan Avgikos, an interview by curator Joan Young and text by Rivethead author, Ben Hamper.

Working independently or in various collaborative constellations, they eschewed the individual object in favor of the exhibition environment as a dynamic arena, ever expanding its physical and temporal parameters. The exhibition of Gerber's work at The Renaissance Society in 1992 marked the culmination of a ten-year period in which Gerber persistently painted the same opaque, monochromatic still-life over and over, in a bold artistic assertion that seeing is not believing but simply perceiving. This catalog is the first monograph publication of Gerber's work, and documents the artist's installations of these paintings at various international exhibitions, including Documenta 9 in 1992, and Robbin Lockett Gallery in Chicago in 1988. <p>Thomas Schutte's works are almost always proposals, and are consequently almost always in the form of models.
