The term "time-based art" is ostensibly a well-known construct by this point, encompassing video, audio and performance work but not textiles or other objects. Yet Renée Green, whose complex installation art has long troubled easy oppositions such as public/ private, center/margin, and history/ fiction, complicates the idea of time-based art as well, recycling the otherwise "static" elements in her vibrant multimedia environments from year to year, thus mobilizing a more expansive notion of the "time-based" to situate her practice in history. Conceived for Green's 2010 exhibition at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, this volume appraises the intellectual complexity of Green's ever-evolving art.

The videos and photographs of Song Dong (born 1966) reveal the social implications of China's booming modernity, and the artist's own attempts to reconcile that boom with its spiritual traditions and its effects on members of his family. Dad and Mom, Don't Worry About Us, We Are All Well is based around a much heralded large-scale installation titled “Waste Not” (2005), comprised of over 10,000 items ranging from pots and basins to blankets, bottle caps, toothpaste tubes and stuffed animals collected by the artist's mother over the course of more than five decades as a way of coping with the death of her husband. A core theme of “Waste Not” is the idea that people, everyday objects and personal stories provide tangible evidence of the impact of politics and history on family life. This volume surveys several works on this theme of material and bodily evidence.

As contemporary art in India becomes more widely recognized within the country, there has also been a growing awareness of its growth and impact internationally. The Matter Within: New Contemporary Art of India surveys sculpture, photography and video by Indian artists living inside the country as well as outside it. Inspired by material culture, literature, spirituality and social and political aspects of the history of the South Asian region, the volume is organized around three thematic threads that resonate from contemporary India: embodiment, the politics of communicative bodies and the imaginary. The Matter Within: New Contemporary Art of India

Audience as Subject is the catalogue to a two-part exhibition that considers the audience broadly as a living organism of participating viewers of live events. The two parts, “Part 1: Medium” and “Part 2: Extra Large” examine audiences at gatherings of corresponding sizes. Participating artists include Andreas Gursky, Ryan McGinley, Paul Pfeiffer and Melanie Smith.

The work of Cuban artist Tania Bruguera (born 1968) researches and performs the ways in which art can be applied to collective everyday life, focusing on the transformation of emotion into political action.
Talking to Power / Hablándole al Poder surveys Bruguera’s artworks for the public sphere created between 1985 and 2017, all of which position art as a resource for social change. This collection of works offers the reader a deep understanding of the artist’s strategies for intervening in power. Richly illustrated and including rarely seen documentation of Bruguera’s actions, this volume features texts by José Luis Falconi, Grant Kester, Suzanne Lacy, Cuauhtémoc Medina and Peggy Phelan.
