Image and Enterprise is the first American publication to survey the work of the important 19th century French photographer Adolphe Braun. The book was prepared in conjunction with an exhibition of materials from French and American collections. Braun's photographs of flowers began a career that emcompassed dramatic alpine views, reproductions of great artworks, and more. Six essays address the relationship of photography to industry and the fine arts and its role in the development of contemporary culture.

In their elegant Providence Shop, Italian emigre sisters Anna and Laura Tirocchi sold French couture clothing to an elite clientele. The shop, remained virtually untouched from 1947 until 1990, when RISD Museum curators were given their choice of its contents, which included apparel by Paul Poiret, Lucien Lelong, and dresses in the style of Madeleine Vionnet. All reflect the advent of modernism in the Paris art world of 1920s and 30s, when designers, painters and printmakers were collaborating as never before to create fashion. From "Paris to Providence" catalogues these efforts with beautiful illustrations and six essays that examine the era's social and art-historical issues.

From the RISD Museum of Art's collection of 84,000 objects, the curators have selected 375 works of art for this volume. Arranged geographically in approximate chronological order, they represent the high points of the collection. Although many objects illustrated here remain on permanent view, not every work of art will be in the galleries at all times. This impressive volume includes several hundred color and black and white images as well as new scholarly entries by several contributing authors. The journal on Interventions and Adaptive Reuse addresses issues of interior architecture and adaptive reuse by promoting creative explorations of this subject through exemplary works in which sustainability is one important facet. Its domain encompasses issues of preservation, conservation, alteration and interventions in the field of architecture and interior studies and practice, but also in the realms of urban and landscape design, and their repercussions in the history and theory of architecture, urbanism, art and design. Each issue of this publication has a particular focus. By exploring distinct viewpoints and approaches to these themes, and by selecting contributions through a peer-review process, Int|AR is conceived as an engaging forum in which different and possibly controversial views are expressed. Int|AR is the official publication of the Department of Interior Architecture, Rhode Island School of Design. It is edited by members of the faculty and supported by the Department, its Division, the College and its Editorial Board.

Volume 03 attempts to answer questions of Adaptive Reuse in Emerging Economies, emerging markets that are on the other side of the Industrial Revolution and the post-industrial period (questions from Int|AR Volume 02). Economies that are progressing toward becoming advanced with ... liquidity in local debt and equity markets ... and stricter standards in accounting and securities regulations 5 . Coined in 1981 by leading financier Antoine van Agtmael, the term emerging markets was a positive and dynamic substitution of the then categorization Third World . Commonly used today by financial indices such as FTSE, Dow Jones, and S&P, the term refers to as many as 35 countries6. While this term is perhaps already in some ways outdated, it is used here simply as a reference to a group of countries that does not enjoy the benefits (and afflictions) of a G7 type economy. By such a classification we hope to evaluate the practice of adaptive reuse within confines common particularly to this group. What does sustainability mean in a country with a developing economy? In a culture of nascent financial stability, what are the incentives for reusing a structure when new construction is attainable? For a citizen with newfound financial stability what are the connotations of old ? And, what are the cultural implications of adapting and reusing an existing structure?
