Women have made vital contributions to photography both as a profession and as an art form from the very beginning. The book was prepared in conjunction with an exhibition of materials from French and American collections. Braun's photographs of flowers began a career that emcompassed dramatic alpine views, reproductions of great artworks, and more. Six essays address the relationship of photography to industry and the fine arts and its role in the development of contemporary culture.
