Two plays are included in this volume: First Star and The Railing. First Star is a riveting drama of discovery and recovery. It is a difficult journey that threatens to open old wounds but ultimately heals the soul. The Railing is a tender story of a poor and handicapped elderly couple stranded in their upper floor apartment for many years due to the landlady's refusal to install a handrail on the staircase. Once discovered by the media, their plight becomes a reality T.V. frenzy. This bittersweet social satire uncovers media exploitation but at the same time, recovers priceless human dignity.

Blood Sisters takes us to the reunion of seven middle-aged women who were classmates years ago at a Catholic boarding school. While the initial situation seems to be nothing more than a typical girls' night out, the reader is soon presented with a wealth of mystery, suspense, and intrigue as the characters reflect on the tragic murder of their classmate Clara, who was killed on graduation day by one of the women present at the reunion. As the mystery unfolds, the playwright examines such issues as truth, ritual, conspiracy, and woman's psyche. In addition to the play, the volume includes introductory notes and production photos.

Harira by Ana Diosdado, Ana 3/11 by Paloma Pedrero and Oxygen by Yolanda Dorado were chosen from among the eleven one-act plays that were part of a commemorative event entitled, Eleven Voices Against Savagery, which marked the one-year anniversary of the 3/11/2004 terrorist attack in Madrid, Spain. Translated to English by Karen Leahy and Phyllis Zatlin from the original Spanish texts, these plays offer the perspectives of three generations of contemporary women dramatists on terrorism and its consequences. This collection offers brief introductions to each of the plays and authors, as well as a director's note and production photos.
