Volume 1: Manuscript Revelation Books is a sister volume to the oversize facsimile edition. This version is the smaller, library edition. Like the facsimile edition, it presents scores of Joseph Smith's revelations, dated from 1828 to 1834, that became the basis for the canonized books of revelations: the Book of Commandments (1833) and the first edition of the Doctrine and Covenants (1835). Unlike the earlier facsimile edition, this edition does not include reproductions of the handwritten revelations themselves. However, this volume does include: 
-Complete, color-coded transcripts of the handwritten revelations, rendering each scribe's handwriting in a different color, to facilitate analysis of revisions made by various scribes. 
-Introductions to place these vital documents in their historical settings and enhance understanding of them. 
-Selected photographs.

The handy one-volume collection of the Book of Commandments, the first edition of the Doctrine and Covenants, and other key early printed versions of Joseph Smith's revelations. This volume of the Revelations and Translations series presents Joseph Smith's revelations in the form that most early Latter-day Saints read and experienced them. The volume features high-quality photographs of each page of the Book of Commandments (1833), the first edition of the Doctrine and Covenants (1835), and seven additional texts added to the second edition of the Doctrine and Covenants (1844).
The volume also includes transcripts of twenty-six revelation texts published in the church newspaper The Evening and the Morning Star and its later, reprinted version, Evening and Morning Star. The book also includes a proposed reconstruction of what likely would have been included in the final thirty-two pages of the Book of Commandments and selected photographs of a copy of the Book of Commandments marked up to prepare revelations for publication in the 1835 Doctrine and Covenants. 
The volume goes hand in hand with the first volume in this series, and together they illuminate the process by which revelations were revised, edited, prepared for publication, and printed. The volume is printed in three colors.

When complete, the Documents series will publish more than a thousand documents created, authorized, or owned by Joseph Smith, including each of his revelations in its earliest form, reports of his discourses, and correspondence. Also found in the series are articles and editorials he wrote for newspapers, minutes of meetings in which he participated, and records of his ecclesiastical administration. 
This first volume of the Documents series consists of documents written from July 1828 to June 1831. Among the contents of this volume are more than five dozen revelations that were presented in the first-person voice of Jesus Christ, including texts later published in the Doctrine and Covenants, the expansive visions of Moses (now found in the Pearl of Great Price), and revelations never canonized. In addition, several documents in this volume trace the process of translating and printing the Book of Mormon, as well as early efforts to evangelize using the book and its message.
These texts provide the earliest textual insights into Joseph Smith and the founding of what was then called the Church of Christ. They offer glimpses into the religious leader's thoughts, concerns, and initiatives in a crucial early period of the religious movement he started. This book allows the reader not only to study Joseph Smith but also to gain a greater understanding of his followers and the millenarian movement they participated in during the Second Great Awakening.

The much-anticipated second volume of Joseph Smith's journals, from the historians with the award-winning Joseph Smith Papers Project. This volume covers the Nauvoo, Illinois, period from December 1841 to April 30, 1843. Two major documents are featured in this volume: 
(1) The journal portion of the Book of the Law of the Lord, which served as a combination journal and temple record book. It includes journal entries on revelations received during this time period, letters written and received, and temple donations.
