This volume of the Revelations and Translations series presents Joseph Smith's revelations in the form that most early Latter-day Saints read and experienced them. The volume features high-quality photographs of each page of the Book of Commandments (1833), the first edition of the Doctrine and Covenants (1835), and seven additional texts added to the second edition of the Doctrine and Covenants (1844).

In 1850, the Hawaiian nation was opened for missionary work, and among the first elders called to labor there was a young man named George Q. Cannon. He had been working in the California gold fields but accepted the call to serve in the island nation. Elder Cannon served as a missionary in Hawaii for four year--from 1850 through 1854--and found himself in the center of one of the most successful LDS missions of the nineteenth century. More than 4,000 people were baptized. However, the success of the mission almost didn't happen.
