This study of two domestic neighbourhoods at Nippur, TA and TB, correlates information from texts found in these houses with architectural modifications to the buildings, and considers the socio-economic circumstances of the occupants. The chapters following Stone's reconstructions of the houses include descriptions of the artifacts and general conclusions. Then follow lengthy appendices of object catalogues, text copies and lists of personal names found in the texts, and plates of architectural plans.

<p>In a primarily diachronic study of the adoption texts from Old Babylonian Nippur, the authors examine the contexts and purposes of adoption. As a result, a number of motivations for adoption are uncovered, including both economic (property exchange) and social (family-oriented) functions. Along with discussion of the source materials, fifty-three of the pertinent texts are published in transliteration and translation, including some heretofore unpublished texts. The volume includes a text concordance, prosopographic index, copies of 12 texts, and 63 plates.</p>

More than just a religious centre, excavations in the 1980s had hinted at a much larger surrounding settlement, something confirmed by the 'Ain Dara Expedition.
