Born in South Africa in 1976, Berlin-based Robin Rhode uses the barest of means to comment on urban poverty, the politics of leisure and the commodification of youth cultures. Drawing plays a crucial role in his inventive, witty and playful performances, photographs and video animations, which are often created on the street, and entail Rhode, mimelike, interacting with two-dimensional representations of everyday objects--for example, drawing a candle and attempting to blow it out, or painting a bicycle and trying to ride it. Recently, he has moved toward more abstract forms in paintings and drawings and has also begun to make sculpture. Robin Rhode: Who Saw Who, a generously illustrated volume, is published concurrently with an exhibition at The Hayward, London and introduces a discourse on the dynamic work of this rising young artist.

Walking in My Mind is published concurrently with an exhibition of the same name, for which London's Hayward Gallery is envisioned as a "giant brain," whose neural pathways the public can inhabit and traverse. Art of Change is the first catalogue to trace out a very particular seam of performative Chinese art from the late 1980s to the present, as manifested in the work of eight artists: Liang Shaoji, Wang Jianwei, Xu Zhen/MadeInCompany, Gu Dexin, Sun Yuan and Peng Yu, Chen Zhen and Yingmei Duan. Lee Bul (born 1964) is a contemporary artist from South Korea whose artistic practice spans the mediums of sculpture, painting, performance, video and installation. Considered one of the foremost Asian artists to emerge from the international art scene in the 1990s, she represented South Korea in the 1999 Venice Biennale. Recent works and a gorgeously crafted miniature gallery from the much-loved Japanese artist 
From the outset of his career, Japanese painter and sculptor Yoshitomo Nara (born 1959) has fruitfully explored the relationship between art and the space in which it is placed. At the cornerstone of Nara's recent exhibition in Pace's London gallery was the most recent product of his ongoing study: a new multiroom installation that was reworked from an earlier project titled London Mayfair House. 
Borrowing its title from the Ancient Greco-Roman term for a public art salon, Pinacoteca (2021) is a specially crafted, tiny, homelike structure that imitates an exhibition space. On the internal walls, the artist hung new paintings on wood and canvas as well as drawings on paper, used envelopes and cardboard boxes. On the external walls, which have been directly painted onto, Nara hung new paintings that are stylistically simpler and more graphic than the works inside the installation. 
Yoshitomo Nara: Pinacoteca presents a close look at the structure, as well as the artist’s recent paintings, sculpture and works on cardboard also displayed in the exhibition. An essay by acclaimed music writer Simon Reynolds explores the relationship of music to Nara’s artistic production, and an essay by curator Stephanie Rosenthal dives deep into the role of built environments in the artist's oeuvre.

To say that Paul McCarthy is a provocative artist is to make an understatement as gross as the artist's own infamous use of chocolate syrup and Santa Claus costumes. Since the late 1960s, McCarthy has pushed the boundaries of taboo through the media of performance art, sculpture, and video, aiming for ultimate catharsis via an inside-out journey through sticky layers of shock and provocation. In his early performance works, the artist used his own body as material, testing his physical limits amidst a mess of American condiments like mayonnaise and ketchup, plus a helping of fluids simulating bodily excretions. His attack on the values of the American way of life and on a society manipulated by the media continued into the 80s, when he began to produce mechanical sculptures that gradually replaced his own presence in the gallery. In the 90s, his ever expansive installations continued to break taboos in a theatrically drastic way, further exploring issues of violence and pornography, masturbation, birth, and death. LaLa Land is published in conjunction with the most extensive exhibition of McCarthy's work in Europe, which ran through the summer of 2005 at the Haus der Kunst in Munich. Included is the first published documentation of two new works on which the artist worked for several years, Pirate Project and Western Project, whose respective protagonists, pirates and cowboys, are drawn from common clichas and myths, as are so many of his characters. Here they are treated with McCarthy's characteristic irony and grotesque exaggeration. Complementing this documentation are video stills, drawings, and sculptures dating from the early 60s to the present, for an important overview of the artist's entire oeuvre.

On October 4, 1959, Allan Kaprow (1927-2006) premiered his seminal work 18 Happenings in 6 Parts at the Reuben Gallery in New York City. Kaprow combined new electronic music and music theory, the plastic arts, theater and dance within an innovative structure that demanded audience participation. This happening anticipated, and gave form to, the conceptual dialogue of contemporary art. In November 2006, 18 Happenings in 6 Parts was performed a second time at Munich's Haus der Kunst in conjunction with a major traveling retrospective of the artist's work and the tenth International Dance Biennial of Munich (DANCE). Andrè Lepecki's faithful rendering of 18 Happenings in 6 Parts is a living work as relevant and groundbreaking today as it was for Allan Kaprow's audience of 75 invited guests in 1959. This book is a rich visual introduction to both Lepecki's presentation of Kaprow's happening and the 2006 Kaprow retrospective.
