Seven Lessons on Architectural Morphogenesis

SEVEN LESSONS ON ARCHITECTURAL MORPHOGENESIS It is the author's fourth extensive book on drawings in architectural design. It follows the Thought Palaces (1999), Thinkink (2010) and Urban Innuendoes (2012). All these books favored drawings as compared to text, but this book has no written text at all (with the exception of the acknowledgements and the contents page). Its motto is: drawings speak in many tongues, they form the text of this book. It contains seven architectural projects, all designed by the author, and with one exception, they are all international competitions about complex and significant public buildings. None of his winning projects are among them, because the purpose of the book is to provide insights related to the secrets of the intuitive and rational process of the    thoughts-to-matter transformation. Making Evergreen Architecture

In this book, the drawings of the Sports and Cultural Center in Budapest, Hungary are assembled. If nothing else, it's enduring ideas -to absorb and emanate Light -and the distantly conducted design process make it special. It was a competition-winning project 20 years ago, partially constructed, then halted, till just recently. It was completed, and opened with a specially composed fairy tale operetta at the last three days of 2014. Designed by architects Antal Lazar, DLA in Budapest, where at the time he was the dean of the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Budapest, and Dr. Peter Magyar, RIBA, serving in the Pennsylvania State University, as the director of the School of Architecture. Hundreds of ink drawings were exchanged via fax (at that time the fastest tool in distant communication), all preserved on letter-size ecru paper. Now some photos represent the unique qualities of the environment, which survived the long hibernation, verifying the possibility of creating evergreen architecture.

Unify knowing and feeling with drawing. Since this process is influenced by the racial memory of our body, the outcome could be unpredictable, mysterious and timeless. If the drawn investigation questions the fundamentals of knowledge, existence and truth, then the resulting architecture might embody a new branch of philosophy. It will affect simultaneously our cerebral, tactile, and spatial perceptions and appear as a circumstantial singularity.
