Legal History

This is a charming and amusing history of contemporary Vermont told through stories about legal cases, some well known and others more obscure, that reveal the conflicts and dilemmas faced by its citizens and by their lawyers, prosecutors, and judges. These stories range in tone and mood from sad to hilarious. Included is the story of the milk strike of 1941, during which a deputy sheriff was killed. Another tale relates the conflagration that followed the removal of a stuffed brown trout from its honorary spot in a local bar.
