The first major English-language monograph on Icelandic Pop artist Erró establishes his primacy among today’s significant figurative artists. Erró, Iceland’s most prominent painter, receives long overdue critical attention for his contributions to international Pop, late Surrealism, and contemporary figurative painting in this sumptuous monograph. Since introducing exclusively source-image-based painted collage to the European Pop movement in 1959, Erró has produced an influential body of work mining cartoons and art history on canvases marked by political satire and his own cheerfully dystopian observations of human nature. Prescient and timely, Erró’s paintings are marked by a voracious consumption of imagery synthesizing a hallucinatory vision of contemporary visual culture. Alain Jouffroy est né le 11 septembre 1928 à Paris. Membre du groupe surréaliste de 1947 à 1948, André Breton, René Char et Henri Michaux ont fait paraître ses premiers poèmes. Cofondateur, avec Jean-Clarence Lambert, de la revue Opus international en 1967, il a été directeur de la revue XXᵉ siècle, de 1974 à 1981. Poète, romancier, essayiste, critique d'art, voyageur (aux États-Unis, au Mexique, à Cuba, en Asie et en Afrique), Alain Jouffroy a été, dans le champ magnétique de la poésie vécue, un aiguilleur toujours en alerte, un accélérateur de trajectoires hors cadre et hors norme. Il est mort à Paris le 20 décembre 2015.
