The essays presented in this collection are based on Alexander Jacob’s earlier works, Ātman: A Reconstruction of the Solar Cosmology of the Indo-Europeans, Hildesheim: Georg Olms, 2005 and Brahman: A Study of the Solar Rituals of the Indo-Europeans, Hildesheim: Georg Olms, 2012. They expand on the cosmological and religious themes discussed in these books with special reference to the origins and development of the Indic and European spiritual traditions. Those familiar with the earlier works will not be surprised that Dr. Jacob’s view of the term ‘Indo-European’ is rather more comprehensive than the more restricted term ‘Āryan’ that has hitherto been widely used as a synonym of it. And those interested in the Āryan ethos itself - chiefly on account of the German use of the term during the last war – may be surprised to learn that it does not consist in nationalistic virtues so much as in spiritual discipline and development - and that this development is characteristic of the religions of very extended and diversified branches of the Indo-European family.

This abrégé of Jacob's 2005 study &#256;tman: A Reconstruction of the Solar Cosmology of the Indo-Europeans (Hildesheim: Georg Olms) focuses on the cosmological insights that inform ancient Indo-European religions and, in particular, on the most significant trinity worshipped by the ancient Indo-&#256;ryans - Agni-V&#257;yu-&#256;ditya - which represents the forms that the cosmic fire takes in the underworld of Earth before it is installed as the sun in the Heaven of our universe. This is not a sociological Trinity, as Dumézil's studies, for example, would lead one to believe. Rather, it is an understanding of the divine fire that informs the macrocosm as well as the human microcosm. The present essay should thus serve to correct the misleading sociological orientations of Dumézilian comparative mythology. At the same time, it will give the reader a glimpse into the extraordinary depth of vision of the prisca theologia of the Indo-Europeans.

A proper understanding of the significance of the cultic object called the Holy Grail has eluded most scholars who have confined their research to western European literary and cultural sources, especially since the originally Celtic story of the Holy Grail underwent numerous bewildering metamorphoses in the romances of the Middle Ages. It was the Indologist Leopold von Schroeder's reading of the Grail story (1910) in the light of his knowledge of Indic mythology that first achieved a dramatic expansion of the field of Holy Grail scholarship. The only other scholar who developed a comprehensive comparative mythological study of the Grail was perhaps Julius Evola in his Il Mistero del Graal e la Tradizione Ghibellina dell'Impero (1937). Schroeder's fascinating elucidation of some of the key symbols of the Grail legends using his knowledge of ancient Indian literature is amplified by Alexander Jacob's reconstruction of the cosmological basis of these symbols and his analysis of the solar rituals that characterized the diverse yet related religions of the ancient Indo-Europeans.

Gottfried Feders Manifesto for Breaking the Financial Slavery to Interest is one of a series of three books by the important, albeit now obscure German campaigner against parasitic debt-finance-capitalism. It was Feder who gave opposition to debt-finance and a demand for a new banking system a technical foundation without which the National Socialist economic and financial policies might not have gone beyond a vague enmity towards capitalism because of its identification with Jews. Feder attempted to interest the Munich Soviet in his ideas for banking reform, but in good Marxist fashion, this fell on deaf ears. It was left to the embryonic National Socialist group to see in Feders ideas the means of achieving both freedom from debt-bondage and the means by which the state could assume its prime duty to issue the communitys own credit limited only by its productivity and creativity. Even though, as the Reich progressed, Feder, like many other early idealists, was relegated to minor rank within the Third Reich, his fundamental ideas provided the basis for Germanys socio-economic revival while the rest of the world wallowed in Depression. In this respect Feder is Germanys equivalent to New Zealands John A. Lee, Australias Jack Lang, U.S.A.s Father Charles Coughlin, and Britains C. H. Douglas and Arthur Kitson. Feder deserves an honoured place amongst the early fighters against usury-capital, a subject which continues to be, perhaps more than ever, of vital relevance to the world.

This study of European natural philosophy begins with the classical conceptions of Mind, Soul, Nature and the Unconscious and analyses the revival of these notions in the natural philosophy of the Renaissance and the Seventeenth century. The concept of the Unconscious acquired a major importance in the systems of the German vitalist biologists and the Idealistic philosophers of the Nineteenth century. Jacob shows how these various thinkers, as well as the German Romantic philosophers, and especially Schubert, Carus, Schopenhauer, and Hartmann, not only revived the ancient doctrines of the Soul in their metaphysical schemes but also anticipated the psychological theories of Jung, who, as a psychologist and philosopher, serves as the culminating point of the work. In the Appendix, the author points to the natural philosophical bases of the discussions of racial differences that emerged in the Nineteenth century alongside the investigations into the spiritual capacities of mankind. Alexander Jacob obtained his Ph.D. in the History of Ideas from Pennsylvania State University and is the author of Nobilitas: A Study of Aristocratic Philosophy from Ancient Greece to the Early Twentieth Century, and Atman: A Reconstruction of the Solar Cosmology of the Indo-Europeans.
