The artist who dared put into question the parameters of ordinary vision. One of the main exponents of Capitalist Realism–a current that arose in the 1970s in opposition to both the Socialist Realism widespread in the countries of Eastern Europe and Western pop art–Sigmar Polke was a tireless experimenter of techniques, art materials, and chemical-alchemical processes. He created figurative paintings that drew on a vast iconographic repertoire often inspired by everyday life and abstract works with a powerful symbolic value sometimes created by chance through reactions between paint and other products. The book reproduces over eighty-five of his works (including photographs and sculptures, along with numerous paintings), giving a full account of Polke's reflections and studies made over his fifty-year career.

Exhibition catalogue of the first European retrospective of Zhang Huan, sculptor and performer, who was born in the Province of Henan Exhibition: PAC (Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea) Museum, Milan, Italy, July 7 - September 15, 2010 One of the most recognized artists both in China and in the West, and capable of creating aesthetic links between the two cultures, Zhang Huan was born in the province of Henan and lived in New York from 1998 to 2005 before moving to Shanghai in 2005 before moving to Shanghai in 2006. This book brings together 42 of his works from major collections around the world. These works all have as points of reference Buddhist spirituality and the rituals of Chinese tradition. It highlights the versatility of Zhang Huan, starting with his performances in the early 1990s up to his most recent works, where he uses the ash from incense burnt in the temples and places of prayer in and around Shanghai. Berlin Buddha is a fascinating piece with the ash that gradually decomposes and dissolves into nature, depending on the environment in which it is placed. Italian artist Fausto Melotti (1901-1986) worked in plaster, ceramics and metal, and also wrote poetry. His work has been linked to Giacometti, Fontana, de Chirico and Calder. This volume collects drawings and poems by the artist, alongside a selection of rare black-and-white portraits and documentary photographs by Ugo Mulas. Originally educated as an electrical engineer, Fausto Melotti enrolled in art school in 1928, befriending Lucio Fontana, who became a lifelong friend. In the 1930s, Melotti created fanciful and dreamlike narratives embedded in small ceramic squares, continuing to work with ceramics and terra-cotta throughout the Second World War. In the 1940s he began collaborating with Domus magazine and published his first collection of poems. The day after his death, in 1986, the 42nd Venice Biennale opened with an exhibition of his work, posthumously awarding him the Golden Lion award.
