How open is our culture to recreation and sports? The popular culture today is saturated with recreation and sports. The Olympics, Super Bowl, World Series, X-Games, Iron Man events, the Final Four in college basketball, and the playoff series in professional basketball capture the imaginations of millions of people in America each time they are held. The questions are, according to general editor John Garner, where is the church and how is the church using these tools to reach people, and will the church see the opportunity to use recreation and sports as ministry tools? The fact is, most churches are not reaching the postmodern culture and are being ignored by an increasingly non-Christian American culture because people see no relevance to their lives. What they do see relevance in is re-creative leisure; they pursue it at break-neck speed and often at great costs. Somehow the church must learn to “capture the imagination” of a world that is passing it by. If the church can capture the imaginations of people, it can get their attention, can gain access to their minds, and can reach the heart with the message of the love of God.

To discuss the history of the franchise in Canada, Mr. Garner had to go back well before Confederation because 1867 did not mark the beginnings of a new franchise. Until 1885 the federal government employed the provincial franchises at each federal election, and the provinces in turn continued for some years the franchises that had served their colonial predecessors. This then is the story of the development of the franchise in each of those British colonies which came to form the nucleus of the Dominion of Canada from the establishment of their representative assemblies until they joined Confederation.

Postmodernism is a philosophical description that encompasses philosophy, the arts, a period of history, and many other aspects of today's existence. This book examines how Indiana public school superintendents use postmodern philosophy as opposed to modern philosophy to inform their practice. This was accomplished by examining eight leadership concepts through the application of questions with decisions related to either modernism or postmodernism. The study described by this book used a quantitative research method assembling data and determining the correlation of operant philosophy of superintendents with their tenure. Postmodern philosophy currently informs legislation in Indiana. A former governor has installed himself as President of a state sponsored Engineering University. Legislation passed into law ensures that Globalization Comparativism is replaced by Developmental Comparatism by the rejection of Common Core educational standards. In this manner science, history and all aspects of education will be defined and controlled by the state. This study illustrates the degree to which public education has embraced this new paradigm.
