Matheny, was has been lifting since high school, is the author of Beginning Bicycle Racing and Solo Cycling. He began bicycle racing in 1976 and has competed in state and national championships.  A former competitive weightlifter, Steven Grabe is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the American Weightlifting Coaches Association, and the American College of Sports Medicine.  He teaches weight training and bicycling at Purdue University.
