Little Sister is a novel written as a screenplay set in 1943 in the Upper San Francisco Bay. A seventeen-year-old boy and a fourteen-year-old girl pretend to be brother and sister during the day but live together as parentless lovers at night in a mothballed U.S. Army house trailer they've made into a home. When the Army moves the trailers, they head for Montana. Caught by the police, they are arrested for stealing. On being transported by a sheriff to stand trial in Boise, the sheriff rapes the girl, the boy kills the sheriff.

Andersen has translated for the first time Zola's youthful and not-so-youthful letters to his boyhood friend and fellow warrior, Paul Cezanne. He also translated for the first time most of Cezanne's youthful poetry, written in letters sent from Aix-En-Provence to Zola in Paris.

Manet's two paintings Le Bain and Olympe opened up a new phase of modern art. Picasso's Demoiselles d'Avignon closed that phase while opening yet another onto the twentieth century. Having dealt at length with Picasso's seminal picture in his book, Picasso's brothel, in this book Andersen takes up Manet's two most original paintings: one depicting a picnic, the other a prostitute, finding links between them beyond the fact that a single model, Victorine Meurent, posed for both pictures.

An autobiography of a boy born in northwestern Iowa, who grew up partly on a dirt farm and partly in Sioux City as the son of a saloon-keeper. He went on to become a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The first 15 years of the author's troubled life are given in a narrative that also serves as a history of Iowa during the 1930s and the early 1940s: the Depression, the farmer's rebellion, the milk way, the beer wars, card gambling, prostitution, and bootlegging. The balance of the author's life is shown in 100 annotated photographs.

Few paintings have been as extensively analyzed as Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, and yet, according to Wayne Andersen’s radical new interpretation of the painting, it has been repeatedly misrepresented and misunderstood by biographical novelizing and reductive psychoanalysis. Andersen seeks to rescue the painting from the myths that obscure its origins, which depict it variously as an outburst of rage against his live-in lover, or as an act of vengeance for Picasso’s having contracted syphilis from a prostitute; such myths are the source of the artist’s reputation for misogyny.
