- The first book of its kind - Explores the childhood works of renowned artists, highlighting the cultural differences of their backgrounds - A semi-biographical celebration of childhood creativity The catalogue presents more than 60 childhood and adolescent drawings by artists who are now internationally renowned. The works, selected by the artists themselves, provide insight into sketches and paintings that they made when they were between four and fifteen years old. Many of the pictures show typical childlike motifs; others reflect the different cultures and political systems from which the artists originate. Norbert Bisky, who grew up in the German Democratic Republic, painted a military parade when he was seven, while Katja Strunz shows us bourgeois West German idylls. With childlike strokes, Tal R, born in Israel, draws armed men, tanks, warships and air raids, while Ralf Ziervogel makes ink tracings of Hollywood posters. The beginnings of well-known artists have never before been examined in such detail. The book provides an intimate insight into the artists' childhood worlds.

-An examination of the Mshatta Fa ade, tracing its history and significance -Volume 1 in the Connecting Art Histories in the Museum series, published in co-operation with the Berlin State Museums The ornamented facade of the Imayyad 'desert palace' Mshatta is an icon of Islamic art. The facade was once part of a 'desert palace' that was built around the mid-8th century AD in the area of present day Jordan. In the early 20th century it came to Berlin as a gift of the Ottoman sultan. Today it has its place in the Museum f r Islamische Kunst in the Pergamon Museum, Berlin, and is one the major monumental exhibits on the Museum Island. This book traces the history of Mshatta from the times of its discovery by Western travellers around 1840 to its installation in Berlin, to its destruction during the Second World War, and subsequent reconstruction. Beginning with the archaeological significance of Mshatta, this book examines its reception and impact as an object of modern historiography and museology. A central aspect considered throughout is the intercultural relationship between the object's origin and its European history. Hence, the history of Mshatta in Berlin is also a case study for art historical and/or museal concepts and constructs that inform the perception on non-European Art and culture.

It allowed this radical new form of art to be featured in a German museum for the first time, on the instigation of the Dusseldorf gallery owner Konrad Fischer. Fischer invited to Leverkusen about 40 artists who boasted an unconventional view of 'finished' work. They saw the final product not as the result of an ever-evolving creative process, but instead placed the initial idea, the sketch - in short, the concept - in the foreground.Allowing these artists to reflect on their own work was a major breakthrough in the world of art criticism, encouraging critics to view concept art as a respectable medium. Today, the 1969 Konzeption Conception exhibition retains its legendary status as the first major collective showing of art in this genre. More than 45 years later, the Museum Morsbroich decided to refresh the world's understanding of concept art, and organised a second exhibition. More Konzeption Conception Now, like the exhibition it is based off of, showcases 20 contemporary artists who, in the context of intervention, performance, and critique, cast a contemporary eye on methodological strategies comparable to the conceptual art of the 1960s.The voluminous publication consists of two volumes in a slipcase: a facsimile of the 1969 catalogue makes an important yet out-of-print title accessible again; a second volume introduces the artists of the current exhibition, including Maria Anwander, Charbel-Joseph H. • A summation of Gert and Uwe Tobias's wide-ranging and multi-faceted artistic repertoire, taken from the Morsbroich Museum• Borrows from several disciplines including ceramics, collage, potato print and, most importantly, woodcutTwin brothers Gert and Uwe Tobias have been working successfully as an artist duo since the end of the 1990s. Because working as a team brings ideas together and sharing is the basis of their art, the twins discovered that collage, a cross-media technique that involves multiple forms of artistry, is their best representation of their style.They convert a multitude of figures into drawings, ceramic sculptures and woodcuts, constantly varied and recombined. Raised in Transylvania, they are still influenced by their German-Romanian roots and the wealth of folk motifs from their native country of origin. In addition to myth-shrouded symbolism, many details of their work - the intense colors of the costumes and fabrics, and the exquisite embroidery on the cushions - are reminiscent of their homeland. Gert and Uwe Tobias are especially well known for their large woodcuts, the genre that is still the focus of their art production.The pictures in this book have been created in a potato print-like process, in which the contours are sawn out of poplar, coated with paint and pressed onto paper or, more recently, on canvas.

Years later he returned to his native land as a photographer to document the lives of Chinese farmers. Ever since, Jiang has explored the lower sections of Chinese society with a combination of concept art and social photojournalism.One of his projects, Archives on Orphans, documents the lives of more than 1000 orphans from Henan Province. He recorded the development of the children during regular visits that took place over ten years. Twelve children in particular were the center of his attention. The book portrays their development and their different backgrounds, life plans, hopes and trials with photos and personal notes by the photographer. This elaborately designed clamshell boxset contains a poster, a booklet and twelve separate fold-outs. Each book has been signed by Jiang Jian.
