Over the course of her career, internationally renowned artist and University of New Mexico alumna Meridel Rubenstein creates photographic artworks that engage the natural world and investigate humanity's place within nature.Eden Turned on Its Side looks at ecological and human processes across time that either reinforce or destroy the notion of "Eden." Focusing on poetic intersections of nature and culture in relation to ecological and social imbalance, the work consists of large-scale photographic images that tend toward immersive installation, as is characteristic of much of Rubenstein's art. It comprises three parts--Photosynthesis, Volcano Cycle, and Eden in Iraq--which respectively explore ecologies on the scales of human time, geological time, and mythical time.Eden Turned on Its Side will accompany an exhibition of the same name, organized by the University of New Mexico Art Museum and opening in February 2018.

An Eye for the City traces a brief history of contemporary Italian photography which came of age during the post World War II years, at the same time that the cities that are documented were starting to be rebuilt.By the early 1950s a new generation of Italian photographers such as Ugo Mulas and Giorgio Avigdor began photographing the new cities with tough, high-contrast pictures in the wake of such “neo-Realist” movies as The Bicycle Thief and Miracle in Milan.In the following decades Italian photographers such as Mimmo Jodice, Gabriele Basilico, Vincenzo Castella, Guido Guidi and later Paola de Pietri and Walter Niedermayr began traveling within the urban fabric of cities reproducing the gaze of anonymous citizens and ordinary passersby living their everyday urban life.An Eye for the City includes essays in English and Italian by photohistorian Antonella Russo, Deborah Bershad, Executive Director, Art Commission of the City of New York, and Bernardo Secchi, professor of Urban Studies at the University of Venezia, Italy.

This distinctive monograph designed by Christopher Kaltenbach is the first publication to survey the major photographic campaigns Patrick Nagatani (b. 1945) has completed during his long and still unfolding career. It includes seven critical essays by distinguished scholars each addressing a specific project from a unique perspective, a comprehensive bibliography, exhibition history, and previously unpublished texts significantto particular projects. This monograph provides an opportunity to see the breadth and range of Nagatani's color photography, and to see into the elaborately constructed worlds of his imagination.

<p>A 96 page exhibition catalogue with two essays, exhibition checklist, and numerous 4-color images, produced in conjunction with the UNM Art Museum's 2014 exhibition Melanie Yazzie: Geographies of Memory, curated by Lisa Tamiris Becker, Director, UNM Art Museum. Highlighting the art of printmaker and sculptor Melanie Yazzie, whose compelling works of layered images draw upon her rich Navajo/Diné heritage, Melanie Yazzie: Geographies of Memory includes examples of the artist's monotypes, woodblock prints, lithographs and etchings. A special body of Yazzie's recent paper-pulp prints with photolithographic elements, as well as selections of her large-scale steel sculptures and smaller works in bronze, are featured in the exhibition and catalogue along with a body of her recent gouache drawings. Yazzie's works enigmatically weave together geographic, cultural, and autobiographical images and referents, transporting the viewer into spaces and places of memory and imagination.</p>
