Hampton Mansion, ancestral home of the Ridgely family, is the highlight of Hampton National Historic Site in Towson, Maryland. The Mansion, a magnificent example of Georgian architecture, inspired the creation of the National Trust for Historic Preservation over 50 years ago. Renowned architectural historian Charles E. Peterson began a detailed study of the Mansion and its dependencies in 1949. Only one hundred typescript copies of Peterson's research notes on Hampton were produced by the National Park Service in 1970.
