Richard Lynn's Dysgenics was published in 1996 and has been out of print for a number of years. To meet continuing demand, this Second Revised Edition updates the first edition and contains two new chapters; one on the decline of the world's IQ, and the other on the dysgenics of immigration. The term Dysgenics means the deterioration of the genetic quality of the population. It is the opposite of Eugenics, which was coined by Sir Francis Galton in 1883 to mean the improvement of the genetic quality of the population. Galton argued in his Hereditary Genius (1869) that deterioration of the genetic quality of the population was taking place for health, intelligence and moral character. Richard Lynn shows that this was correct and is still present world wide.

This book challenges social scientists to reconsider the theoretical foundations of the study of social phenomena. Until now social scientists have assumed that varying environmental factors explain social phenomena and that there cannot be any common explanatory factor behind various social phenomena. However, the empirical evidence presented in this book and covering nearly 200 countries indicates that many kinds of human conditions depend significantly on differences in average intelligence of nations (national IQs).\nDifferences in intelligence help to explain all kinds of phenotypic social phenomena as well as the persistence of social inequalities in the world. Environmental factors affecting such phenomena vary from case to case, but intelligence reflecting the evolved human diversity remains the same explanatory factor across all phenotypic social phenomena. This means that it provides a unifying theoretical construct for the social sciences. Unfortunately social scientists have not yet realized that most problems explored in social sciences are phenotypic phenomena depending on both genotypic and environmental factors and that intelligence is a powerful genotypic common explanatory factor.\nThe arguments and hypotheses presented in this book are tested and supported by extensive empirical evidence. Ultimately empirical evidence will decide the destiny of conflicting theoretical arguments.

Intelligence: A Unifying Construct for the Social Sciences

In recent decades ethnic conflict has killed many millions and diminished the lives of many more. In Ethnic Their Biological Roots in Ethnic Nepotism Tatu Vanhanen turns his attention to this vital subject following his ground-breaking studies of democratization and economic development.\nThis is a replication on the global stage of his widely cited 1991 study of ethnic conflict in India. It is an evolutionary analysis that combines nuance and quantitative rigor. Vanhanen's starting assumption, that all humans share a common human nature in which nepotism can extend to ethnic kin, is already far ahead of culture-based analyses.\nMarshalling data on 176 contemporary societies, Vanhanen finds that 66% of global variation in ethnic conflict is explained by heterogeneity. This is the sort of robust result that comes from using palpable biological variables. There are many other causes of ethnic conflict but none as strong as ethnic diversity. Per capita income, level of human development, and level of democratization explain only between 6% and 16% of variation. Vanhanen concludes that because the predisposition to ethnic nepotism is engraved in the human genome, ethnic conflict will continue into the future.
