Invalid Format is an archive of the widespread publishing activities of Triple Canopy, the editorial collective and online magazine based in New York, Los Angeles and Berlin. The book, designed in collaboration with Project Projects, translates into print work that originally appeared in other forms. This inaugural volume of Invalid Format includes artist projects and literary work published in the first year of Triple Canopy’s existence, documentation of public programs, and a sampling of foundational correspondence. In form and content, the book explores how works produced for the screen might be transposed to the codex in a way that recalls that former context while also fully inhabiting the page. Corrected Slogans looks at conceptual practices in contemporary art and poetry. In conjunction with the exhibition Postscript: Writing After Conceptual Art at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, the online magazine Triple Canopy hosted a series of public conversations between some of the most innovative artists and poets working today. The symposium Poems for America asked how conceptual writing has transformed conventional notions of expression, while Automatic Reading, a seminar-style roundtable, focused on reading as a creative practice, and the book as a material object. In summer 2013 Triple Canopy invited writers, artists, scientists, activists, economists and technologists to bet on the future: which future do you want to see realized? How precisely can you describe it? What demands might this future make on the present? The answers were presented as Speculations ("The future is ______"), 50 days of lectures and discussions at MoMA PS1, Triple Canopy's contribution to the exhibition EXPO 1: New York. This book, a lexicon of the central terms of Speculations, conveys the relationship between ideation and action and suggests viable approaches to interpreting and changing the world. Triple Canopy considers economic interventions ("guaranteed basic income"), political abstractions ("autonomy," "prometheanism"), figments of the imagination ("planetary colonization"), modes of expression ("science fiction") and useful neologisms ("hedge-fund utilitarians").

On Value is a collaboration between Triple Canopy and choreographer/artist Ralph Lemon. The book is a multifarious conversation about the value of artworks and the labor and bodies that make them, especially as defined by institutions with whom artists have often had fraught relationships. In essays, poems, interviews and artworks, 19 contributors consider artworks that resist institutional parameters; how and why performers, choreographers and dancers might go about making art institutions into proper venues for their works; and how race figures into assessments of value. On Value emerges from Value Talks, a series of private conversations organized by Lemon in 2013 and 2014 at MoMA.

An intimate, urgent and riotous account of masculinity, whiteness, queerness and belief in America In winter 2018, Gregg Bordowitz performed a three-part lecture series at the New Museum as part of Trigger: Gender as a Tool and a Weapon. Each evening, he explored an avatar of masculinity that was formative to him as he came of age as an outer-borough child of Jewish immigrants, then as an artist-activist in Manhattan at the dawn of the AIDS crisis: the rock star, the rabbi and the comedian. He merged personal and political history, ribald humor and social criticism, performer and persona. Some Styles of Masculinity is a self-portrait and an essay on upheaval and plague, based on transcripts of the eponymous series, which Bordowitz has reimagined for the page. He asserts that gender can't be separated from ethnicity, sexuality, class or nationality, and he connects these aspects of himself through personal anecdotes as well as reflections on whiteness, diaspora, comedy and Jewish mysticism. Some Styles of Masculinity evokes David Antin's "talk poems," Maggie Nelson's "autotheory," David France's How to Survive a Plague and Wayne Koestenbaum's casually erudite criticism. This book is a winding, intimate, urgent, freewheeling account of thinking and enduring in difficult times. Gregg Bordowitz (born 1964) is the author of Glenn Ligon: Untitled (I Am a Man) (2018), General Idea: Imagevirus (Afterall Books, 2010) and The AIDS Crisis Is Ridiculous and Other Writings, 1986-2003 (2004). He was an early participant in ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power), where he cofounded several video collectives.
