Este libro sigue la pauta iniciada hace unos años por varios investigadores españoles e iberoamericanos, aumentando sus hallazgos sobre la lingüística forense con casos y datos de la comunidad hispana estadounidense. El autor propone tres metas con respecto al tema: una de comentar el estado actual de la investigación, otra de presentarle al investigador académico y al perito profesional casos a manera de ejemplo de la lingüística forense, y una tercera de aportarle al alumno universitario un libro de curso que le sirva para iniciarse en el campo de la lingüística forense. Se organiza el volumen alrededor de sus objetivos. Luego de considerar el contexto extralingüístico de la presente obra, se enfoca la lingüística forense y su práctica en el peritaje lingüístico. Siguen dos capítulos que abarcan el estudio de la variación lingüística observada en el estilo escrito, cuya finalidad es la de aplicar el análisis del estilo (la estilística) a casos forenses de autoría dubitada. Los demás capítulos presentan varios estudios de caso que pretenden proporcionarle al alumno modelos verdaderos de cómo se entreteje la práctica de la lingüística forense con la teoría lingüística de fondo.

Sweet's Mill was a jewel in the crown really. There's something so beautiful about the Central California location. All these people who were deep into the music, making the pilgrimage all the way to Sweet's Mill, being there for this unreal almost pretend magical kingdom, at least something that wasn't too much damaged by reality. There was freedom balanced with responsibility. It functioned as a community. -- Barry Olivier In the 1960s, well before the internet became available, recordings of authentic traditional music were limited and other resources were yet to be invented. Many of the people featured here searched their own communities, the nation, and the globe for folk traditions. For some people the passion was Appalachian fiddle and banjo music, Carter Family songs, blues, bluegrass, or shape note singing. For others it was ethnic: Irish, Mexican, French, Greek, Balkan, Flamenco, Middle-Eastern, Cajun, or klezmer. Pilgrimages were made to find authentic fiddlers, banjo pickers, singers, cloggers. Some travelers became amateur folklorists; others became revivalist performers. Still others became professional ethnomusicologists or dance troupe directors. What is remarkable is that their paths crossed at Sweet's Mill.

Modern Western Armenian is considered an endangered language by UNESCO. Today Western Armenian is essentially a Diaspora language which was dramatically impacted by the Armenian Genocide of 1915. The post-Genocide period has posed a great challenge to the continued vitality of this important language. For the past few years, scholars have discussed how to best teach Western Armenian and to transmit the language to future generations.
