The Passing Of The Great Race

The Passing of the Great Race is one of the most prominent racially oriented books of all times, written by the most influencial American conservationist that ever lived. Historically, topically, and geographically, Grant's magnum opus covers a vast amount of ground, broadly tracing the racial basis of European history, emphasing the need to preserve the northern European type and generally improve the White race. Grant was, logically, a proponent of eugenics, and along with Lothrop Stoddard was probably the single most influential creator of the national mood that made possible the immigration control measures of 1924. The Passing of the Great Race remains one of the foremost classic texts of its kind.This new edition supercedes all others in many respects. Firstly, it comes with a number of enhancements that will be found in no other edition, including: an introductory essay by Jared Taylor (American Renaissance), which puts Grant's text into context from our present-day perspective; a full complement of editorial footnotes, which correct and update Grant's original narration; an expanded index; a reformated bibliography, following modern conventions of style and meeting today's more demanding data requirements. Between the late 1970s and the early 1990s, Jonathan Bowden wrote 27 books, about which almost nothing was known until after his death. Combining cultural criticism with memoir, high journalism, and selected correspondence, these texts belong to no particular genre, the prose being allowed to roam where it may, drawing from many strands, finding unexpected links, and collecting shrewd insights along the way. More than anything, they are exercises in exploration and self-clarification, wherein one will find, as work in progress, many of the themes that would later emerge in his orations. The Jonathan Bowden Collection aims at making these obscure texts readily available for the fi rst time, complete with annotations and indeces, so that they may be studied and / or enjoyed by present and future generations interested in the dissidents at the margins of British intellectual life at the turn of our century.  Axe begins with the Right and ends with conservatism, but it is largely a commentary on art, literature, and intellectuals on the Left. Bowden begins with a criticism of Wyndham Lewis and then builds a catena of digressions, whose topics include Andrea Mantegna, J. G. Ballard, Stephen King, a foray into personal memoir, Jean Baudrillard, the New Left, Jean-Paul Sartre, Albert Camus, and Roberto D'Aubuisson. Throughout his commentary, Bowden compares the meaning and approaches of the Right against those of the Left in the intersection between modern politics and culture. This is not an essay in any conventional sense, but rather a succession of fervid and unpredictable snapshots that acrete into a grotesque panorama of Western civilisation in the 20th century.

In Aryan Worldview Houston Chamberlain discusses the importance of Indology in the effort to gain deeper insight into the essence of Indo-European thought. Relying on Sanskrit being part of the Indo-Aryan, and thereby part of the Indo-European, family of languages, from which he supposes a common ancestry, he deems Europeans can benefit greatly from a study of the Vedic texts, the latter expressing another facet of the Indo-European ancestral soul; this facet he sets in contradistinction, and as complementary, to the Hellenic: while the Hellenes were concerned with form, the Aryans were concerned with substance. Chamberlain rejects Buddhism as un-Aryan and, most importantly and for the same reason, he rejects the teachings of the Christian Church, which he deems to have had a distorting effect on European thought through its foundations in the Hebraic tradition. This is not to say that Chamberlain was anti-Christian, or anti-Christ; along with Émile Burnouf and Paul de Lagarde, the Biblical scholar, he was rather a forerunner of Positive Christianity, a 'purified' form of the religion that was wholly in harmony with the ancient German tradition, right into its pagan past. As with Positive Christianity, Chamberlain's text falls within the tradition of 19th-century Higher Criticism: it is call to understand the world behind the ancient texts. Needless to say, Chamberlain's ideas are unfashionable today: firstly, in death he was heavily promoted by the National Socialists, and, secondly, they belong to an intellectual tradition and approach to the humanities that has since fallen into obscurity, having given way to egalitarian or universalist discourses of emancipation. However, his influence was significant and essential to understanding the history of ideas in Germany during the 19th and 20th centuries: his magnum opus, The Foundations of the Nineteenth Century, published a few years earlier, enjoyed curricular status in German education and numerous reprints until the end of Word War II; and Aryan Worldview, though brief and introductory, is, in a way, an addendum to some of the themes explored in that work. Rendered in a superbly clear translation, this is the first official English-language edition of Chamberlain's text since its original publication in German in 1905. With a translator's foreword, footnotes, and a full index, this volume will serve as a reference for both students and scholars alike.
