This book of postcard presents 32 watercolors and oil paintings by Winslow Homer from the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. These works represent the events and places which inspired Homer during his artistic career of more than fifty years. Homer traveled widely during his lifetime, and the subjects of his paintings included here - the weathered woodsmen who were his guides on hunting expeditions in the northern wilderness, the breathtakingly beautiful rivers and lakes in the Adirondacks and Canada where he fished, and the southern islands (Cuba, Bermuda, the Bahamas - whose palms and crystal waters he so enjoyed) - reflect his travels. His colorful style, lush handling of paint, and above all the new drama and profundity he brought to his quintessentially American themes, have long ago caused him to be regarded as one of our greatest painters.
