At freaking last! A collection of FATAL VISIONS, Melbourne's own infamous trash film zine, has congealed into perfect bound format. Proving that dead tree technology has not entirely slipped into a coma this compilation covers the earliest and rarest entries in FVs decade-long publication history. Devoted to sleaze, violence and sexploitation in the Cinema and wherever it appears on video, TV & in print, FATAL VISIONS went to places where few other Australian publications even knew existed: bottom of the package video titles, late late night TV movies, films that played announced as drive-in supports and in hard tops where they were lucky to play for one week only.

Inspired by New York's legendary 'noise boys', 80s and 90s fanzines like Forced Exposure, B-side and Motorbooty and a lack of sex, Melbourne writer, musician, film-maker and suburban struggler, Aaron Goldberg presents in 'real' print for the first time, a collection of non-fiction written works exploring his love for the not-quite popular pulp culture.  Having no career plan, the worst 'networking' skills on the planet (even in the Internet/blog age), and realising very quickly that his tastes were way too Kosher to get him aligned with any 'hipster' scene, Goldberg knew he was never going to make a career (or even get laid) out of 'cultural writing'. Having had some minor success as an artist in the early 90s in indie band 'the Earthmen', Goldberg's writing is a rare breed in this 'critic' game, he understands what it's like actually 'being' an artist with writing that aspires to capture the immediate ecstasy of the works themselves. Transplanting the 'by any means necessary' with 'whenever I feel like it' credo, Goldberg has compiled a collection of works that have appeared both online and off into this relaxed, inspired, organic (and often orgasmic) collection of interviews and essays.  Sure anyone can write a blog, but hey, how many blogs can you read on the toilet/aeroplane/train?

A recipient of a $400,000 Arts Grant from Merde-och University, "Foutre la merde, dans" is a by-the-dots piece of contemporary literature, exploring notions of identity, sexuality, multi-multiculturalism, oppression from the dominant paradigm, persecution, depression, repression, acceptance and the ultimate triumph of getting your own retrospective at the Wheeler Dealer Centre, as well as increasing your Facebook friend count and your industry currency by 100,000 points/friends. What "Foutre la merde, dans" isnt, is vicarious. Which means you will be afraid to read it because Goldberg is a radical practitioner of psycho-physical transference. This book will assault you (dont say we didnt warn you ) with repetitive whining of a life less lived. But at least it isnt vicarious. Lost in translation, the title of the book is a metaphor for the novel itself, as it unravels like reverse-engineered origami. Taking cues from Antonionis Blow Up, Burroughs cut-ups and rude bastards from Europe, Goldbergs biggest regret in life is his inability to speak the mother tongues of his mother: Spanish and French... Does vulgarity count as a second language?

Unquiet Dreams: The Bestiary of Walerian Borowczyk

Walerian Borowczyk was far and away the classiest of sleazy film-makers, and the sleaziest of the classy ones. Starting as an animator and director of visually rich kafkaesque fantasies ("Blanche", "Goto, Island of Love") he went on to divide audiences by moving into graphic erotica ("Immoral Tales", "The Beast") and subsequently worked his way through exploitation tropes (nunsploitation, Jeksploitation, togasploitation) before creatively imploding spectacularly with his bizarre contribution to the Emmanuelle series. Inspired in look and feel by seventies film and filth mags like "Continental Film Review" and "Sex Stars System", the present author does not much value coherence or consistency. He is interested in contexts and connections, obscure minutiae, jokes (he will judge what is funny), and blurry screen grabs of topless women from seventies softcore flicks. Whilst not ideal, it's better than nothing. Probably. You figure it out. Plus INDEX!

How can we speak of the continued existence of Soviet cinema in the quarter-century since this apocalyptic event? 
But from Battleship Potemkin to The Colour of Pomegranates, from Man with a Movie Camera to Stalker, from The Cranes Are Flying to Hard to be a God, cinema from the “sixth of the world” covered by the Soviet Union continues, indefatigably, to exist. Firstly, because films made during the era of Communist rule are still with us, even well after the social and political framework in which they were realised has perished. And secondly, because, even to this day, the history of the USSR looms large in the cinema of Russia and the other former Soviet republics, as contemporary filmmakers engage in the vast project of digesting the tragic history of the Soviet experiment. 
The centenary of the October 1917 Russian revolution, when under Lenin’s leadership the Bolsheviks established the world’s first proletarian state, was marked by a major dossier on Soviet cinema in the Australian online film journal Senses of Cinema. This book is an augmented version of that dossier, collecting more than sixty articles on Soviet and post-Soviet films arranged in chronological order, and represents the first collaboration between Senses of Cinema and The Leda Tape Organisation.
