<p>The Grave Stompers is the fictional journey of Birdie and Guff, two ex-Army Air Service pilots who seek independence and fortune in the air following World War One. After selling airplane rides town to town, the boys form an air circus, during which a near disastrous stunt gets Birdie discovered by a Hollywood film maker. Birdie and Guff enjoy a fleeting career as action serial stars. Chronic fiscal insolvency results in a number of remarkable stunts and even takes them south of the border as mercenaries in the Cristero War of 1926. They eventually participate in one of the greatest flying movies ever made. While Birdie and Guff may be fictional, their adventures and exploits are based on actual events from the 1920’s, when flying and wing walking stunts considered suicidal today were commonplace. There are laughs and love in this fast-paced book. And tears. The Grave Stompers celebrates risk but never sidesteps the heartbreak that shadows it.</p>
