This book was created to introduce Pro/MECHANICA Motion, which supports virtual prototyping for analysis and mechanism design. It covers most of the major concepts and frequently used commands required to advance from a novice to an intermediate user level. It uses a hands-on, exercise-intensive approach to all the import parametric modeling techniques and concepts. The lessons guide the user from constructing basic shapes to building intelligent solid models and creating multi-view drawings. Each book comes bundled with a CD presenting an audio/visual version of the tutorial exercises contained in the book. A voice overlay explains the interface, menu picks, and design activities while models are created. The CD presentation is not interactive and is independent of Mechanical Desktop, meaning Mechanical Desktop is not required in order to use the CD.

This book is written for first-time FEA users (in general) and MECHANICA users (in particular). After a brief introduction to finite element modeling, the tutorial introduces the major concepts behind the use of Pro/MECHANICA to perform Finite Element Analysis of parts. These include: modes of operation, element types, design studies (analysis, sensitivity studies, organization), and the major steps for setting up a model (materials, loads, constraints, analysis type), studying convergence of the solution, and viewing the results. Both 2D and 3D problems are treated. The tutorial uses a click-by-click format to show the command sequence exactly as performed by the user for a wide variety of models and design studies.
