When talks of secession gains traction in the northern press, the son of an immigrant tenant farmer sees an opportunity to change his life. Looking for the excitement of unknown adventures, he enlists in the Union Artillery and is assigned to Battery F, 3rd U.S. in the Army of the Potomac.
During his first campaign he witnesses the reality of war, and at Fredericksburg its horrors. He eventually lands in Washington City, for surgery, then home to recover.
It’s only after he learns how to live with the physical and psychological wounds, can he be open to courting his future bride through a personal relationship with the Lord, and an eventual return to see the war through to its end.
