Richard Moore specializes in rephotographing historic sites. This title features scenes from the iconic fishing village on Monhegan Island, Maine. The island became a destination for artists in the early 1900s. It remains an active fishing community and a haven for artists, birders, and eccentrics. The book commemorates the 2014 observance of Captain John Smith’s sojourn on Monhegan Island 400 years earlier. “Hilarious and profound at the same time,” writes Iris Miller, a Monhegan poet. “We are all ghosts.”

Early in the 2000s, photographer Richard Moore began making twice-seen images, with vintage and contemporary photographs, merging surrealism and history. This title features combined photographs of historic monuments and areas of Athens, and was sponsored by The Hellenic American College and the NH Institute of Art. Moore s dual photographs images of Athens from the previous century paired with corresponding contemporary photos shot from the same spot open up before our eyes a fascinating window to memory, stirring a moving sense of intimacy at the sight of well-known and beloved sites across the city. It is the spirit of Athens itself that is represented in Moore s photographs, which prompt us to take another look at the city, or see it twice. Moore uses his unique style of superimposing past views of a place onto his new photographs in this softcover collection about Athens, Greece. It accompanies a traveling exhibit.
