Nancy Ekholm Burkert (born February 16, 1933) is an American artist and illustrator. Her most celebrated work is the picture book Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1972), which was a New York Times Notable Book and a Caldecott Honor Book. Her early work demonstrated a command of shading and texture through pencil and charcoal, in addition to her usual media of pen and ink combined with colored pencil and watercolor. Beginning with The Nightingale and concluding with Snow White, her mastery of light, shadow and depth combined Renaissance chiaroscuro with an Oriental awareness of space in settings that were realistic in detail, yet also fanciful and timeless in content. Her later work continued this emphasis on intense, intimate detail, revealing a passion for the complexity and variety of life. This book reproduces the best of her work from completely new engravings, and includes fine reproductions of original, unpublished paintings to reveal the power and variety of her talent.

Frank Frazetta (1928-2010) was an American fantasy and science fiction artist, noted for work in comic books, paperback book covers, paintings, posters, LP record album covers and other media. He was the subject of a 2003 documentary. Frazetta was inducted into the comic book industry's Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1999. In 1964, Frazetta's painting of Beatle Ringo Starr for a Mad magazine ad parody caught the eye of United Artists studios. He was approached to do the movie poster for What's New Pussycat?, and earned the equivalent of his yearly salary in one afternoon. He did several other movie posters. Frazetta also produced paintings for paperback editions of adventure books. His interpretation of Conan visually redefined the genre of sword and sorcery, and had an enormous influence on succeeding generations of artists. Frazetta's paintings have been used by a number of recording artists as cover art for their albums. Molly Hatchet's first three albums feature "The Death Dealer", "Dark Kingdom", and "Berserker", respectively. The book includes previously unpublished studies from the artist's sketch books and superb four-color reproductions of original paintings. A number of the paintings are exciting new versions of early work. There are also previously unpublished paintings. There are thirteen major subjects in this book which have never appeared in any previous book or calendar. And several color and enumerable black and white sketches from his "doodle" books. All of the art is bursting with the quality of life which is characteristic of the work of Frank Frazetta.

James Elliott Bama (born 1926) is an American artist known for his realistic paintings and etchings of Western subjects. Life in Wyoming led to his comment, "Here an artist can trace the beginnings of Western history, see the first buildings, the oldest wagons, saddles and guns, and be up close to the remnants of Indian culture ... And you can stand surrounded by nature's wonders." In addition to his western art, he is responsible for some of our most memorable pop culture images. He is the creator and artist of the slightly surreal covers for the 1960s paperback reprints of old "Doc Savage" pulp novels. He was inducted into the Illustrator's Hall of Fame on June 28, 2000. At the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, when he was the first Honored Artist at the Buffalo Bill Art Show in 2003, Bama commented, "Everything I've done - the rodeo, the trappers, the mountain men - has been done around here. The fact that I'm from Cody makes this very significant to me. They're really honoring Cody and the Buffalo Bill Historical Center." He was inducted into the Monster Kid Hall Of Fame at The Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards. This is the first collection that was ever done of his work.
