An ancient but modernized Ahtna Athabascan legend about the health of Salmon and our Environment. This tall tale follows the life cycle of Salmon, beginning and ending in an ancient village, but traversing a modern polluted world. Amazing illustrations by award winning Dimi Macheras, who happens to be my son. Our Ancestors were healthy and strong before the introduction of white flour, sugar, and other unwholeome foodstuffs into our diets. This story aims to target the importance of nutrition at youth using the modern medium of the graphic novel. Our Relations roamed their homeland for millenia, caring for the Land with reverence. They believed they were put on Earth to take care of it, and if they did a good job, their needs would be met. When they killed an animal, they thanked the Creator, and treated the animal with respect. They utilized every part of the animal, wasted nothing, and never took more than they needed. As an Ahtna woman growing up hearing our ancient legends, I decided to create a modern story that would remain true to the ancient wisdom. This story was reviewed and approved by Elders in my area.
