This dissertation studies the logic behind quantum physics, using category theory as the principal tool and conceptual guide. To do so, principles of quantum mechanics are modeled categorically. These categorical quantum models are justified by an embedding into the category of Hilbert spaces, the traditional formalism of quantum physics. In particular, complex numbers emerge without having been prescribed explicitly. Interpreting logic in such categories results in orthomodular property lattices, and furthermore provides a natural setting to consider quantifiers. Denial in cancer patients is a well-known concept. The definition of denial, however, is not unequivocal and covers different ways of evading painful events or feelings. This thesis studies denial and its relation to the quality of life in lung cancer patients. To assess the level of denial the 'Denial of Cancer Interview' (DCI) was developed. Denial was measured at different time points in the course of the disease. The key-finding from this study is that patients fare better when they express a moderate level of denial or increase their level of denial from the moment of diagnosis over time. This study shows convincingly that denial in lung cancer patients deserves attention in clinical practice. In this era of self-disclosure it is good to realize that some patients need protection against unbearable facts and feelings. Denial can serve this need and should be respected.

Despite the controversial reputation of Hizbullah in the West, and the significant role this powerful Islamist organization plays in Lebanese politics, there are few reliable, published English translations of the party’s primary documents. <p>This important study offers detailed information obtained by interviewing 1505 Dutch respondents, all second-generation Turkish or Moroccan, alongside members of a native Dutch comparison group. The respondents, all aged 18-35 and residing in Amsterdam or Rotterdam, supplied information relating to their cultural, social and economic integration in the Netherlands. The book describes the strategies deployed to select and interview respondents, including an account of problems and adopted solutions. Furthermore, it outlines the sampling frame and sample selection, as well as issues of non-response, construction and use of compensation weights, and statistical representativeness, concluding with a description of the questionnaire and characteristics of the database.</p>
