Walter, a 70-year old German-American retired teacher, travels from his hometown in Chicago to the Mississippi Delta. On the way he befriends an African-American family who share his interest in the importance of the harmonica in Blues music. Walter's conversations with them and his frequent inner-monologues communicate facts and figures about the history of the instrument, the Blues and exemplary Blues harmonica players. These are interwoven with historical events relevant for the freedom struggle of African Americans.

Springer traces the history of nineteenth century German- American artists who decorated mission churches erected by their immigrant countrymen in North America. The majority of the churches were Roman Catholic, but a few of them belonged to the Protestant faith. The activities of these artists included the design and construction of altars and pulpits, the painting of altarpieces and murals, the decorative stenciling of the structural supports in church interiors, the installation of stained glass windows, and the sculpting of religious statues.

Former high school teacher, Alan Hunter, has led ghost tours of Irvington, Indiana for the past 15 years. These tours examine the darker side of our community's history, including the murder of a 10-year-old boy by America's first serial killer H.H. Holmes. An elderly couple asked Hunter if he would be interested in a group of items related to the Holmes crime. As the tour continued, he lost track of the couple, and forgot about them. The following Saturday, while Hunter was out leading the tour, the couple from the previous weekend approached the registration table with a box containing the collection. They said, "This is for Al. He is expecting these." In the years since that night, Hunter was never able to reconnect with them. He never found their names or the provenance of the collection. This book explores the items in the collection and tried to determine its creator.
