Museum Tusculanum

Thorvaldsens Museum opened in central Copenhagen in 1848. The great Danish sculptor had arranged to donate his own works of art and his collections to the city, provided that the museum be built for the purpose; it would become his tomb. The Museum was decorated with a colourful frieze depicting the triumphant arrival of Thorvaldsen and his magnificent works of art in Copenhagen from the artist's studio in Rome. The dramatic frieze, designed by the Danish artist Jørgen Sonne, made a big splash at the time, and has captivated visitors ever since. In this learned and lively study of the Museum and its frieze, John Henderson shows how the frieze takes inspiration from classical models, including the Parthenon and Roman monuments, in delivering the finest neoclassical art, and its cosmopolitan European culture, to the attention of a newly modernized public. In Nordic countries, there is a Lutheran majority living in ecumenical cooperation with other churches and ecclesial communities. This book sheds light on what the churches have discovered they hold in common and on the areas where they recognize there are divergences between them, both in relation to ordination and ministry and, in particular, to the theology and terminology of ordination. The book brings together the research and insights of 23 researchers from all the Nordic countries including Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands, studying more than 200 different kinds of ordination rites from the Orthodox and Roman Catholic as well as Lutheran and non-Lutheran protestant traditions. The periodical deals from a philological point of view with Classical Antiquity in general and topics such as history of law and philosophy and the medieval ecclesiastic history. It covers the period from the Greco-Roman Antiquity until the Late Middle Ages.

This volumeâ€”in German textâ€”is the first edition of an 8.80 m long demotic account papyrus, one of the longest extant papyri. P. Carlsberg 409 provides detailed information on the delivery and distribution of wine at Edfu in the year 132/131 BC, i.e. the 39th regnal year of Ptolemy VIII Euergetes II. This edition contains a palaeographical and philological commentary as well as a study of the administration and economy of the Horus temple at Edfu in Upper Egypt.

This volume - written in German - contains a complete re-edition and study of the Fundamentals of the Course of the Stars. This handbook on religious astronomy was hitherto known under the modern designation Book of Nut. Since the standard edition in Egyptian Astronomical Texts I (eds. Neugebauer/Parker), five new sources could be identified, some of them containing considerably more text than those previously available. Four of them are papyri from the temple library of Tebtunis, which are published here for the first time.
