Max Dunbar, distinguished marine biologist and renowned teacher and McGill University since 1946, recalls his long and multifaceted life in a series of autobiographical essays. Dunbar details his early years in Great Britain, his life at McGill, his time in Denmark, and above all, his expeditions to Greenland and the Arctic. Essays from a Life was published just before Dunbar's death in 1995.   The volume includes an index and a complete list of his publications.

With reference to features of layout and decoration, Evans interprets Guy of Warwick as a composite work, not separate works as some scholars suggest. Examining Sir Isumbras as a homiletic romance, and Sir Degaré and Sir Orfeo as Middle English lays, he shows how different versions of these romances, in their varied composite manuscript contexts, necessitate different readings of the "same" works and of their subgenres. Evans considers the manuscript structure of groups of works with different authorship and establishes six models of composite literary structure for Middle English literature. Evans argues that manuscript groupings of romances - and of romances with nonromances - enrich our interpretations of individual romances, romance as a genre, and medieval literary structure. This original study will appeal to readers interested in medieval romance and manuscripts, medieval literary structure, and computer applications in the humanities.

The second volume includes Humphrey's diaries from 1950 to 1951 and documents a time when the Division of Human Rights focused on providing support for various UN bodies in the development of covenants on human rights and related topics.This was a period of significant changes in the Human Rights Division. Eleanor Roosevelt was replaced as chair of the of the Human Rights Commission and Humphrey's friend and immediate superior, Assistant Secretary-General Henri Laugier, resigned, foreshadowing a significant change in the attitude of the UN senior administration towards the human rights program. The Secretariat also got its first intimation of the anti-communist witch hunt that was to come the following year.

After authoring the first draft of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at the request of Eleanor Roosevelt, he shepherded the Declaration project through to its completion in 1948. He was involved in the development of the various human rights covenants and protected the division from a number of threats, including investigation by the staff for un-American activities and Secretary General Dag Hammarskjöld's attempts to bring the human rights program to a standstill. Later in his career Humphrey introduced a highly successful technical assistance program in which international and regional seminars were held on specific human rights topics in countries all over the world. He was also deeply involved in the attempt to create the office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in the 1960s. Edited by A.J.
