About the Author Born in Minnesota, Linda S. Miller grew up in North Minneapolis with her seven siblings. Her father was a neighborhood barber and her mother worked at one of the local restaurants. During her formative years, a time of no cell phones, smart TVs, or computers, reading and writing became her favorite pastime activities, and helped encourage her active imagination. Married right out of high school, Linda raised three children while attending community college and operating an in-home childcare program focused on early literacy, and diversity and inclusion. She began writing children’s stories, songs, and rhythmic rhymes to support her program curriculum. Currently, Linda lives in South Minneapolis with her family.

Isaiah’s Sunglasses is a beautifully illustrated, fictional rhyming story, that begins with Isaiah as an infant and chronicles his journey through high school. Blind and always wearing his yellow-rimmed sunglasses, we get a glimpse into Isaiah’s life, his determination, his family, his friends, and how he discovered and learned to use his voice. This book is designed to help navigate critical conversations with young children as they learn more about people with disabilities, accept and respect differences, embrace inclusion, and begin to develop anti-bias behaviors.

Literature & Fiction

This children's picture book is two-fold. First, it talks about the foods we get from cow's milk as told through the eyes of a little girl who dreams of having a cow. However, the last page of the book reveals a message about childhood hunger. This book is to encourage critical conversations with young children about the reality of food hunger and one major source from which our food comes from, livestock.
