I pray that this book leads someone to Christ. If only one person gets saved after reading this book it will be well worth the effort. If God can use someone like me to carry his word to the lost he can use anyone of you. You can never get too far in the world that God cannot get you out. When it comes to you, God will get your attention one way or the other. I ran from God a long time. One day I was driving and my brakes went out. I literally hit the church I was running from. I don't run from God anymore. My pastor, Truman Carter, brings God's word and I write it down and pass it out wherever I go. If people won't go to church I'll bring the church to them. So just sit back, and let God work as you are reading this book. There are almost a hundred different messages in here. If you can find just one that helps you find Jesus our job is done. I hope this helps you grow closer to the Lord. I want to thank God for giving me a chance to bring his word. I hope you have as much joy reading this as we did working on it. My Bundle of Early Life

The intent of "A Bundle of Early Life" is simply to record for my family and others who are interested, remembrances of growing up in Pratt. Nothing more; nothing less. This afternoon as I write, I'm sitting on the front porch of my house (built in 2005). I am looking at the hay field, the corn patch, the pasture with a few horses. To my left is Mama and Daddy's house (built in 1953). This is where Keylon and I grew up. Straight ahead is Ma and Pa Gholston's house (built in 1890). To my right is Keylon & Teresa's house (built in 1981). Much of the scene is the same as the time from which I write, and much is different. Such is life. Some aspects of Gholston Farm have varied, but the joy of life here remains constant. No matter where I have lived, worked or traveled, the longing for the farm has always been. In these memories I have the blessing of returning to the time, place and people who molded me, taught me, inspired me and "grew" me. Come with me...

Patricia Neely-Dorsey is a 1982 graduate of Tupelo High School in Tupelo, Mississippi. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. Her first book of poetry, Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolia-A Life in Poems was published in February 2008. Her second book of poetry, My Magnolia Memories and Musings- In Poems was published in February 2012. Her third book "Mississippi In Me" was published in January 2017. She calls her books a "celebration of the south and things southern". Through her poems, the author attempts to give a more positive view of Mississippi and the South, rather than all the negatives usually portrayed.
In 2015, Patricia received a proclamation in her honor from Governor Phil Bryant declaring her as an Official Goodwill Ambassador for the state. Her slogan is "Always, Always Celebrating the South and Promoting a Positive Mississippi." Her poem "Meet My Mississippi " was submitted for consideration as the official state poem in the 2016, 2017, and 2018 legislative sessions. Several of Patricia’s Mississippi poems are included on t-shirts of the Southern Belle T-shirt Company line in her continuing efforts to Promote a Positive Mississippi. Patricia currently lives in Tupelo with her husband James. They have one son, James Henry.
Brenda Ragsdale is a self- taught freelance artist who lives in Guntown, Mississippi. Brenda attended Guntown Elementary School and Guntown Middle School. She is a graduate of Saltillo High School. She is married to Jeff Ragsdale. They have two sons, three daughters and fourteen grandchildren. The artist states, "This book was my first time using the medium of watercolors. I was always a little afraid of it, but it turned out beautifully! “Mississippi is such a beautiful state and it has contributed so much more than most people know."

Growing Up & Facts of Life

It was 1865 and slavery had been abolished, but the transition from servitude to freedom was difficult for many blacks. Many of them choose to stay as sharecroppers on the plantations that once enslaved them. It was easier to do that, work was almost impossible to find. Sharecroppers did work such as picking cotton, planting cotton, and working at the cotton gin. They lived in hut houses. There were days for town, church and also school. Shortly after the years passed by their children move away to the north, east and west. Doing good for themselves, they never forgot what their parents taught them which was to always tell their children's children, what happened during their life time.
