Karma Chakme's Mountain Dharma includes the text as taught by Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche at Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD) from 1999 to 2003, with translations by Lama Yeshe Gyamtso and Chojor Radha. His Holiness the Sixteenth Karmapa (Rangjung Rikpe Dorje, 1923-1981) asked that Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche present Karma Chakme's Mountain Dharma to Western students. In accordance with this wish, Khenpo Rinpoche began teaching this text in 1999 at Karma Triyana Dharmachakra, the North American seat of His Holiness, located in Woodstock, New York. Rinpoche omitted chapters that he considered restricted; these restricted or secret parts will be taught and published separately at Karma Ling Retreat Center for use by qualified students. The five volume set, Karma Chakme's Mountain Dharma, includes the text as taught by Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche at Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD) from 1999 to 2003, with translations by Lama Yeshe Gyamtso and Chojor Radha. Volume two examines the complete path of Mahamudra from initial experience to full realization. There is emphasis on how to conduct a proper retreat, including the use of geomancy in determining the appropriate site, the longevity practices of White Tara and Tseringma, chA practice, and how to use compassion as protection from fear and danger. This volume introduces the tantras, and gives anuttara yoga tantra instructions for Vairochana purification practices both for oneself and for the deceased.

It is a carefully constructed compilation of selected Gurupujas from many different traditions. These include extracts from the Pangkong Chagyapa Sutra, which was the earliest dharma to reach Tibet; the Bodhicharyavatara by Shantideva; the Gurupuja by the mahasiddha Lingrepa; the Gurupuja by Panchen Lozang Chogyen; the Gurupuja of All the Dakpo Kagyu by the guru Jamgon Lodro Thayey; the Shakyamuni Ceremony by the great scholar Mipam Jamyang Namgyal; the Ceremony of the Elders by Shamar Chodrak Yeshe; and sutra rituals composed by several of the Sakya tradition.

The first Barway Dorje was a precious revealer of treasure and the rebirth of Nupchen Sangye Yeshe, one of Guru Padma's twenty-five disciples. Barway Dorje appeared in Tibet during the nineteenth century, and was praised and respected by the many holy beings of his time as an authentic treasure revealer. His many treasures include The Sadhanas of the Vidyadhara Guru, The Vajrakila Cycle, and The Dakini Cycle, all of which contain profound instructions pertaining to ripening and liberation. The previous Gyalwang Karmapa, Rikpe Dorje, displayed great interest in The Vajrakila Cycle in particular. In addition to his treasures, Terchen Barway Dorje composed many works of his own that have been of great service to the essence teachings, such as his Barom Kagyu Mahamudra and Six Doctrines.

The two biographies translated here are treasures revealed by Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Taye, who was an emanation of the translator Vairochana, the subject of the second of the two biographies. Vairochana was a disciple of Guru Padmasambhava, the subject of the first biography. The purpose of these biographies is to inspire readers to vividly imagine the deeds of Guru Rinpoche and Vairochana, so they can appreciate those deeds and understand something of what such beings are. These stories are of people utterly unlike us in one sense and identical to us in another. However, because we have as yet not freed our potential from the limitations imposed on it by ignorance, our present state is very different from their present state. At the same time, seeing how extraordinary that achievement is can remind us that we have not yet realized our full potential. Therefore these stories are both uplifting and humbling.

This is the English translation of Nyima Taski's brief account of his recollections, prophecies of future births, and includes a foreword by the Ninth Kyabgon Traleg Rinpoche, Gampopa, the peerless physician from Dakpo, who was repeatedly predicted and praised by the Buddha, and who caused the teachings of the lineage of accomplishment to become widespread in the Himalayan land of Tibet.
