<p>This book has been compiled to honor the extraordinary life of Kyabje Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche, with the aspiration to inspire dharma practice by contemplation of his activities, his teachings, and his legacy. It begins with accounts written by others about him. Recollections by his nephew and personal secretary Lama Gyaltsen Ratak describe his birth, youth, and spiritual education, including the twelve to fifteen years he spent in solitary mountain retreat. Kyabje Bokar Rinpoche, Dezhung Tulku Rinpoche, and Khenpo Lodro Donyo, all heart disciples, provide their accounts of Rinpoche's life and qualities. The writings of Kyabje Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche presented here include his autobiography and its auto commentary, together with songs, poems, essays, letters, and the heart of this volume his own guru yoga. These writings are followed by selected translations of oral teachings given by Rinpoche over the years in Europe and North America. Also included here is a translation of an episode of the Gesar of Ling saga written by Rinpoche, one of several such episodes he wrote in Tibet in the mid-1940's. It is an example of his unique creativity in fashioning a means to transmit Dharma teachings through a medium of popular entertainment reaching a broader audience than would typically attend formal Dharma expositions.
