In the style of Wolfgang Tillmans and Roe Ethridge, New York-based Asher Penn, born in Vancouver in 1982, captures the quotidian. This chunky volume is an anthology of Penn's zines (2004-2007), and is particularly inspired by Richard Prince's pioneering re-representations of existing photography.

Alex lsrael’s (born 1982) series of Self-Portraits were developed through the evolution of a logo based on the artist's profile―an iconic representation of facial features that calls to mind the famous silhouette of Alfred Hitchcock―originally created for the video piece As It Lays, a beguiling and campy work of talk show–style interviews for which Israel cast himself as host, presented at Reena Spaulings' New York gallery in March 2012.
Made with the same techniques used for manufacturing surfboards, and produced at the Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, the sculptures, through the very process of their production, reflect on the context of Los Angeles, the culture of hedonism and the cult of personality from which they spring.

Andro Wekua's (born 1977) Gems Survey is a book of memories: pinned to the bare field of each page are small images of buildings, scraps of cities and shreds of skies, clippings of stars and far-off galaxies. These are the places that Wekua has traveled to, real and imaginary, environments that influence and constitute a large part of his oeuvre.

This and other reflections make up Brice Marden: Notebook Sept. 1964-Sept. 1967 and Brice Marden: Notebook Feb. 1968-, facsimiles of American artist Brice Marden's (born 1938) personal journals. On every page, a patchwork of clippings, drawings, renderings and handwritten notes reveal the painter's thought process and document the political and cultural events of the era. A prolific notetaker, Marden filled his journals with subject matter as familiar as references to Italian film director Federico Fellini and as esoteric as "looking at an object in nature and running lines around it." The constant throughout is the work--deliberate, studied rectangles of graphite and ballpoint pen allude to the monochrome paintings that earned the artist fame and are a precursor to the panel paintings to come. Each journal is a unique guide to Marden's artistic output from that period as well as a distinct reference to the city--at that time bustling with artists such as Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns--where he painted.

Death Sequence documents a year in the life of Los Angeles-based artist Sam Falls through a series of carefully selected photos taken by the artist and his friends, as well as installation shots of Falls’ 2013 shows in Los Angeles, Geneva, Paris and Rome. Nearly 50 poems by Jamie Kanzler appear throughout, surrounded by the primary colors and natural silhouettes that are characteristic of Falls’ work.

On July 5, 2011, the day of Cy Twombly’s death, Julian Schnabel (born 1951) painted a series of cruciform works as a tribute to Twombly, who was an important influencer of his early painting and a close friend. La Nil examines these artworks alongside a number of recent paintings and sculptural work.

Pioneer of mail art and an early participant in both the Pop and Fluxus movements, Ray Johnson created complex, punning works that ingeniously combine text and image, celebrity culture and art history, wit and melancholy. Figures such as Mickey Mouse, Elvis Presley, James Dean, Michael Jackson and Calvin Klein models populate his many collages―a candid foreshadowing of current societal obsession. In the 20 years since his death, Johnson's work has become an increasingly accurate depiction of our fragmented and overstimulated society and includes some of the most recognizable imagery from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Beautifully designed, this massive compendium includes 296 color reproductions of collages, drawings, interventions and other ephemera from Johnson's estate. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Ray Johnson (1927–1995) studied under Josef Albers and Robert Motherwell at Black Mountain College in North Carolina, and worked as a painter early in his career, exhibiting alongside Ad Reinhardt and Charmion von Wiegand before embracing pop imagery, collage and mail art, producing thousands of collages and other works on paper. His life and death (by suicide, jumping from a bridge in Sag Harbor, Long Island) were the subject of the award-winning documentary How to Draw a Bunny (2002).
