There are artists who make you think and there are artists who make you smile. There are artists who entrance you with stories and others who have a feeling for color, texture and form. Meet that rarity: Robert Deyber, a brilliant painter who until recently has been one of the best-kept secrets in contemporary art. Robert Deybers artwork is full of surprises. Every canvas revels in the artist's sense of humor, each painting a visual rendering of a clever turn on a common phrase. Despite his humorous nature, however, Robert Deyber is a seriously skilled painter. He is endlessly intrigued by visual imaginings that reside in the realm between reality and fantasy, and he is clearly able to render these imaginings brilliantly. Because of the humor in so much of Deybers work, it is at first easy to overlook the deeper meanings buried in the heart of each painting. Robert Deyber is an American artist most known for literal visual portrayals of cliches, euphemisms and idioms from the English and other languages. The San Francisco Examiner in 2009 described him as a "pop surrealist" whose style "has appeal for new as well as experienced collectors." Deyber paints his own scenes from the prose that peppers the English lexicon. His works range from literal translations of fanciful sayings to kitschy depictions of everyday terminology. This work collects sixty hand-crafted stone lithographs by Robert Deyber in miniature format.
