Tomorrow ain't promised to us son," "I want my flowers now," and "I'm ready to go home to see my Jesus," were phrases my mother said all the time but especially when she wanted me to help her write her life story from 1931 to present day. The "guilt" worked because mom like many African Americans, has high blood pressure and heart problems. I knew that her story had to be told first. When God moved on my heart to make her story a "conversation" it became an overwhelming blessing for both of us. I'm forever grateful to her for living through insurmountable odds so that I can enjoy a richer life. I can't imagine what it was like to be a woman and black in the south, in the1930's. I just can't wrap my mind around that. Mom is "I Am Woman and Superwoman." But she never once complained or played the victim. Mom stood on her powerful faith in Christ and she's still standing today at 79 years young. We all need to have a serious heart to heart talk with our mothers to understand their tumultuous journeys and the sacrifices made. But also they need to hear from us about "issues" we've buried in our childhood. Most importantly, we learn about our rich history and how we stand on the backs of our mothers and all those who came before them in our families. Don't wait another minute! Grab a tape recorder, pray with your mother first for clarity and understanding and then let it all out in Jesus Name. Now you have her story in her voice so that after she's made the transition to the Company of the Angels you can still hear her angelic voice and REJOICE! I'm so excited to meet all of my fans that are really my friends, and I'm extremely excited about my book "FROM RAJ TO MR. The novel provides the country with an outstanding rendition of the relationship between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Gay activist Bayard Rustin. It takes the reader on a journey that begins in January 1956, when Rustin arrives in Montgomery, Alabama to instruct Dr. King and his followers on how best to utilize the concept of non-violence, as an effective tool to fight the evils of segregation. It continues as Rustin draws up the organizational structure for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and continues as Rustin organizes and coordinates the most famous march in this country's history, the 1963 March for Jobs and Justice in Washington, D.C. There never would have been Dr. King's, "I have a dream speech," delivered that day from the Lincoln Memorial if not for Rustin's organizational skills. In this novel, the authors point out that Human Rights is a value that all people are guaranteed in this country, if we can only get beyond the petty prejudices that still exist. They also answer the question would Dr. King have considered the Gay Movement a civil rights issue? That answer is a resounding yes. For the history buff and readers who want to spend time reading a novel that educates, entertains and empowers, this novel is a must read.

Tested loyalties, and love of a woman are at the heart of this well written novel by an excellent writer. It is the story of two young Black men, Hobart Grayson and Shelby Murchison whose paths cross when they win athletic scholarships to the same university. Because they are from very diverse backgrounds an unlikely friendship develops between the two during their freshman year. Their friendship continues once they graduate, behind a one hundred bet. The story unfolds against a backdrop of the Great Depression, the Second World War, and Jim Crow bigotry of the 1950's when a young Black man is kidnapped by a mob and lynched. There hadn't been a lynching in Texas since the early 1940's when a distant cousin of Hobart was accused of raping a white woman and strung up in Texarkana. When the same thing happens to nineteen-year-old Willie Eason years later, Hobart vows to achieve justice for him. The reader will not be able to put this book down until he/she knows how Hobart manages to avenge Willie's murder and what the hundred-dollar bet is all about and who is the winner.
