PRODUCTIVE CHRISTIANS in an Age of Guilt Manipulators, by David Chilton: ·See Sider Squirm. If Pope John Paul II is really interested in dealing with heretical "liberation theologians" in his church, then he ought to issue this third edition of "Productive Christians" as a Papal encyclical.·Protestants have trouble with their own liberation theologians. Some of them are Marxists in the Lamb's clothing, while others are merely Fabian socialists in the Lamb's clothing. Some of them just aren't willing to say...yet. (Tactics, you understand.) Ron Sider belongs to the third group.·Sider's first edition of "Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger" created a minor sensation in conservative Protestant circles. It was the cutting edge of a radical shift of political and economic opinion in the neo-evangelical world, especially on college and seminary campuses--a shift to the far left. The book received no response until 1981, when the first edition of Productive Christians blew away Sider's claims that he was simply applying the Bible to economics. Sider has never recovered intellectually, as Chilton's third edition demonstrates. Sider's desperate attempts to "cover his flanks" in the second edition of "Rich Christians" are exposed by this book as a last ditch effort. Sider waffles, Sider squirms, Sider drops whole sections of controversial sections (exposed in Chilton's earlier editions) to other chapters, but still nothing works. There is no place left for the Bible nor economics when it comes to his conclusions about profits, taxes, foreign aid, and Western guilt for Third World poverty. ·To put it bluntly, this book definitely destroys what little was left of Sider's position. The Sider phenomenon, intellectually speaking, is finished. This book is its gravestone. -GARY NORTH

This is Part Two of Gary North's commentary on Exodus. It is a discussion of the Ten Commandments from the point of view of economic theory. Gary's discussion of the sabbath in this book supersedes everything he has written in the past, and nobody who wants to deal with the sabbath issue can afford to ignore the questions he raises in this book. So far, there has been no detailed response from strict sabbatarians, although the book was published in 1986.

Gary North ; Christian Reconstructionist ; Gary Kilgore North (born 1942) is an economic historian and publisher who prolifically writes on topics including economics, history, and Christian theology. North argues for the abolition of the fractional-reserve banking system and a return to the gold standard. He also opposes the US Department of Education and Council on Higher Education Accreditation, claiming it is a cartel and the group has, in part, caused higher education to become uniformly secular, liberal, and mediocre: raising the cost of entry. He is the founder of the publishing firm Institute for Christian Economics (ICE). The company reportedly got its start with a bequest from an anonymous benefactor. North never received a salary or book royalties for the 25 years of its existence. At North's request, the board disbanded the ICE in 2001. The assets were transferred to Dominion Educational Ministries, Inc., a non-profit organization that operates Christian day care centers. North is a member of the Presbyterian Church in America. R.J. Rushdoony, one of the founders of Christian Reconstructionism, was North's father-in-law, and North is a Christian Reconstructionist. The Institute for Christian Economics published many Christian Reconstructionist books online. Christian Reconstructionists are also presuppositionalists in their approach to Christian apologetics as taught by the Calvinist philosopher Cornelius Van Til, and oppose natural law theory as a basis for civil law order.

Contrary to the modern secular myth of entropy - the idea that the world is irretrievably running down - North maintains that the overcoming of the entropy has its part to play in God's plan for the ages. Think of Moses and the burning bush; the manna that fed the Israelites for almost 40 years; the daily refilling of the oil pot of the widow who fed Elijah for over three years; Christ's feeding of thousands with a few fish and bread. Most notably, however, the overcoming of entropy applies to every account of resurrection from the dead, especially the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Because modern Scientific Creationism has rested its case on the idea of entropy, it has undermined Christian social theory which rests on the doctrine of Christ's ascension in history, not entropy.
