Gutman and Krakowski examine in depth the story of Polish-Jewish relations during the Holocaust. The tas is vitally important because one faces, on the one hand, a united choir of historical falsification emerging, attempting to deny Polish anti-Semitism and the largely indifferent or negative wartime attitude of the Polish population toward the Jews, and, on the other hand, Jewish anti-Polish sentiment tending to dney the heroic help extended to some Jews by what one is tempted to describe as the best elements of Polish society. The authors pick their way carefully amid conflicting evidence. Tehy analyze Polish attitudes toward Jews both regionally and by social classes. Tehy avoid the pitfalls of facile generalizations by pointing out exceptions and contradictions to the general conclusions they reach. The picture that finally emerges is not a very pleasant one. There were som Poles who helped... Some paid with their lives for their identification with their Jewish neighbors; some Polish partisans cooperated with Jews and accepted them into Polish units. But the majority, and that included the official underground armed forces, were either indifferent or were actively hostile. Against that background, it must be remembered, the minority that helped stands out the more. The authors not only describe the situation, but also try to explain the reasons for it

Widely recognized as one of their matriarch by Holocaust survivors, Dr. Rosensaft (1912-1997) was imprisoned in Auschwitz-Birkenau and Bergen Belsen. She kept 149 Jewish children alive in Bergen Belsen from December 1944 until their liberation on April 15th, 1945 and then served as administrator of that camp’s hospital. She was one of the leaders of the Jewish Displaced Persons in the British Zone of Germany, became a founding member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council and a played a pivotal role in the creation of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This is her memoir. Introduction by Professor Elie Wiesel, Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

Six million were murdered in a systematic genocidal program carried out under the cover of World War II. This book focuses on the spring of 1945, when Allied advance into the Germany uncovered numerous concentration camps, and establishing assembly centers to temporarily house survivors awaiting new destinations. For many, liberation was both a release from terror and the beginning of a new phase of anomie and homelessness. Published on the occasion of the exhibition, " Liberation 1945" held at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, Washington, D.C. from May 9, 1995-January 7, 1996. Black and white photos on every page with captions of the victims, their tormentors, the camps, the dead, and some survivors of this horrific crime. Many very graphic in nature. Also some color maps of where the concentration camps were located and maps of allied forces.
