This book charts the careers of three significant figures in the history of the Ebira (a small ethnic group in Nigeria's Middle belt): an Italian Missionary, a British Administrator, and the group's young Ruler. The events described occurred in the early decades of the 20th century, at a time when Islam, Christianity and Traditional Religion were locked in deadly combat for the soul of the Ebira. The central characters are joined by an extraordinary cast of Africans and Europeans, driven by the possibilities afforded to them in the melting-pot which was Nigeria at that epoch. The denouement of this "fight to the finish" - which involved victory and defeat - demonstrates that while one of the great riches of the human spirit is its resilience, that capacity is not unlimited. This edition of Fulfulde - English Dictionary is forward - thinking in its intended mission in somewhat noting of dialectal differences as this may be helpful to a wider area and more useful to users. Considerable revisions to the entries have been made to this edition, similarly a lot of alterations to the cross references. Efforts also have been made in order to incorporate at large some vocabularies not included in the first edition for the benefit of students of the language and researchers therein. People and other books also were consulted. Among the books consulted there are Encyclopaedia Britannica, Chambers Dictionaries, Oxford English Dictionary and Hausa - English Dictionary by Rev. G. P. This is the story of Jean-Marie Coquard from Mesquier, Brittany,  a sailor in the merchant navy  who  became a missionary in  Abeokuta, capital of the Egba people of Nigeria. Without  formal training he exhibited an extraordinary aptitude for medical work and established one of Nigeria’s premier hospitals  in  1894, acting as its  surgeon. His reputation spread widely throughout Abeokuta and its hinterland. He obtained his medical supplies, surgery manuals, and surgical instruments  from supporters  Brittany. During a visit to Europe in 1907 he walked the wards of  the celebrated Hotel Dieu hospital in Lyon, bringing back many new surgical techniques and surgical manuals. Coquard’s abrasive character brought him into conflict with his own religious superiors who made every effort to remove him from Abeokuta. He resisted successfully  by harnessing the support of the people of Abeokuta and leaders of the colonial government. There were many dramatic episodes in his long career, which spanned the  reign of the feared Ogundipe, the notorious  Ijemo Massacre  of 1914,  the Adubi Uprising of 1918 and the loss of Egba Independence.  In later life he retreated to his hospital, working from  there  to assure the future of the magnificent hospital which had replaced the original structure in 1911.
